A great time to play golf is spring, when the weather is beautiful, the courses are in perfect condition, and most importantly, you can book your annual golf trip with your buddies. Whether you’re looking to stay local with a trip in the US or looking to go abroad to countries like the Dominican Republic, our list of the best spring golf destinations will hopefully give you some inspiration.

California

As one of the best states in the country for golf and good weather, spring is the perfect season to book your next golf vacation to California. With April and May being the best times for course conditions and value for money, the championship venues, sandy beaches, and outstanding resorts make California the ideal golfing getaway.

If you’re looking to head to southern California, Palm Springs has some fantastic resorts that are certainly worth a visit. Stay and play at the five-star La Quinta Resort which has two courses on-site and another three course down the road at PGA West, home of the Stadium Course which hosts The American Express on the PGA TOUR.

Another great resort in Palm Springs is the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells, known for its wide range of deluxe accommodation and two excellent golf courses to play just across the road.

PGA WEST

The jewel in California’s crown is the stunning Pebble Beach Golf Links in Monterey. Regularly listed as one of the world’s greatest courses, Pebble Beach has hosted the US Open six times as well as the PGA Championship in 1977 and is certainly a bucket list worthy course. During your time at this world-class golf resort, be sure to make time to play Spanish Bay and Spyglass Hill – both ranked in the top 10 of Golf Digest’s public ranking.

Also in Southern California, abundant with beaches, a vacation in San Diego should certainly be on your spring golf vacation short list. With fantastic year-round weather, the popular Torrey Pines Lodge and Golf Resort sits adjacent to the world-renowned Torrey Pines golf courses. This includes the famed South Course which hosted the US Open in 2008 & 2021 and the annual Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA TOUR.

Additionally, the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa is also an ideal destination in San Diego for a relaxing golf vacation – with two golf courses, a spa, outdoor pools with waterslides and multiple dining options this resort has it all.

South Carolina

With the perfect time for golf being late March to early June, a spring vacation to South Carolina is certainly a must. Central to three big ticket golf destinations (Kiawah Island, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island), is the vibrant city of Charleston. Regularly voted as the No. 1 place to visit in the US by Travel + Leisure Magazine, a trip to South Carolina will be jam packed with outstanding golf, culture, and welcoming southern hospitality.

Just 2-hours south of Charleston, Hilton Head Island is home to over 20 courses. The premier golf course on the island is the Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Resort. Opened in 1969, this Pete Dye designed layout has hosted the PGA TOUR’s annual RBC Heritage since 1969 and is the only course in South Carlina to host an annual PGA TOUR event.

This outstanding course sits on the Sea Pines Resort, a stunning five-star resort with multiple accommodation options (guest rooms and villas) and an additional two fantastic golf courses on-site (Atlantic Dunes and Heron Point).

Harbour Town Golf Links

Situated on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, the Kiawah Island Golf Resort is perfect for golfers looking for sensational golf with breath-taking surroundings. Here you’ll find five golf courses on-site, including the famous Pete Dye designed Ocean Course, a bucket list course for all golf enthusiasts having hosted some of golfs biggest tournaments.

Just an hour north, you’ll find the Wild Dunes Resort located on the Isle of Palms. With two Tom Fazio designed courses, the Links Course and Harbor Course are prime Lowcountry courses that offer sensational views.

If a trip to Myrtle Beach sounds good, you’ll find more golfing options than you could ever dream off here. Especially good for golfers working with a budget, a package to play some of the Myrtle Beach favorites including TPC Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach National, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and True Blue Golf Club is a definite must.

Scottsdale

With year-round warm weather, less than 10 inches of rainfall a year and some of the best PGA venues in the state, Scottsdale, AZ is a top choice for your next spring golf trip. Whether you are looking to experience Old Town Scottsdale and build your own golf tour or stay in one of the many luxurious resorts the city has to offer, Scottsdale has it all.

Starting off with arguably one of the best independent golf clubs Scottsdale has to offer, the risk-reward finish at the home of the PGA TOUR’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course makes it one of the city’s most famous courses that should be included on your trip’s itinerary.

Other impressive independent courses to include on your Scottsdale itinerary includes courses at Troon North (both ranked in the top 10 of Golf Digest’s best public courses in Arizona), Ocotillo Golf Club (27-holes of scenic golf), and the Grayhawk Golf Club (host to some of the most prestigious tournaments).

For those looking for everything in one place, try one of the many fantastic golf resorts Scottsdale has to offer. Stay and play at the five-star Boulders Resort, set on 1,300 acres of picturesque land, the two courses at Boulders Resort are certainly magnificent. The classic desert style North and South layouts provide spectacular views of the landscape and boulder formations.

Ocotillo Golf Club

If you prefer something more secluded, the We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort stands out in the Fountain Hills area of Scottsdale surrounded by classic Arizona desert. With fantastic on-site facilities including two golf courses, a casino and multiple pools, this resort is the perfect relaxation destination. Or, if you’re looking to stay a little closer to the city, the Westin Kierland Resort is the perfect choice with 27-holes of golf onsite and luxurious amenities.

Dominican Republic

The heart of golf in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic boasts an impressive number of golf courses, designed by some of the world’s top architects, and should be considered as your next spring vacation destination. As the Caribbean’s premier golf destination, the Dominican Republic is full of quality resorts.

Opened in 2013 and sat along the white sandy beaches of the Caribbean Sea, The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club is a luxurious five-star resort with fantastic facilities and of course two strong golf courses available to resort guests. The La Cana Course, designed by P.B. Dye (Pete Dye’s son), features 27-holes (14 of which have ocean views) and the Corales Golf Course, designed by Tom Fazio, is a PGA TOUR venue that winds throughout the natural terrain and is a real challenge (also with six ocean view holes).

The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club

Located just 20 minutes from The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club, the Punta Espada Golf Club is a stunning oceanfront course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Known for its meticulous and detailed layout, this course stretches an impressive 7,396 yards and has played host to the Champions Tour’s Cap Cana Championship multiple times.

Ideal for golf groups or families seeking a luxury golf vacation, the Casa de Campo Resort has its own private beach, first-class dining options as well as three amazing onsite golf courses. Located just outside of La Romana on its own piece of oceanfront property, Casa de Campo is one of the world’s leading all-inclusive golf resorts.

Punta Espada Golf Club

The world-famous Teeth of The Dog Course, designed by Pete Dye, offers spectacular views and has long been regarded as the #1 best golf course in the Caribbean. Of course, the Dye Fore and Links courses also deserve an honorable mention. Both spectacular courses, the Dye Fore course gives you seven cliff-top holes, and the Links course brings you back inland winding through the resort complex.

Texas

Although not an obvious choice for a spring vacation, the golf scene in Texas is fast becoming a premier place to visit for great golf in the US. The natural landscapes and mild climate make Texas a haven of parkland golf courses and luxurious golf resorts.

Worth building your trip around, Texas boasts some impressive public golf courses, in particular the two courses at TPC San Antonio, host site of the Valero Texas Open on the PGA TOUR. Ranked top in the state by Golf Digest, the Oaks Course is a Greg Norman design that incorporates the natural rocky terrain making this course a definite must play. The Canyon Course has also hosted a PGA TOUR Champions event from 2011-2015.

If you’re looking to combine first-class golf with top quality accommodation, the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa is the perfect place to stay if you’re playing at TPC San Antonio. With residents being granted exclusive access to these two championship courses, this resort is abundant with luxury and fantastic facilities.

If you’re looking to experience a trip to Austin, Horseshoe Bay could be the perfect option for your next golf vacation. Stay and play at Horseshoe Bay, located right on the edge of the Colorado River, this resort has three fantastic championship golf courses on-site as well as a superb range of accommodation options, leisure facilities and dining spaces. All designed by legendary Robert Trent Jones, the Ram Rock, Slick Rock and Apple Rock courses span over the natural landscape, and each pose their own unique challenges.
