About the Solheim Cup
After the inaugural Cup was held in 1990, Team USA dominated proceedings before the turn of the century. But Team Europe has come fighting back, with their most famous win coming at Loch Lomond, the last time the matches were played on the British Isle.
USA legend Juli Inkster reinvigorated the American team, with their tight victory in 2015 being the closest Solheim Cup since its inception.
In 2019, this was no exception with Europe winning for the first time since 2013 after an incredible finish to the final day singles, which ended with Suzann Pettersen holing the decisive putt on the 18th green, sending thousands of fans into raptures. This historic win will only motivate the ladies to get another win on American soil in 2021 with Catriona Matthew as captain again!
More about The Inverness Club
The Inverness Golf Club is set to stage the 17th edition of the Solheim Cup between team Europe and the USA, in early September 2021.
Designed in 1916 by Dornoch-man Donald Ross, Inverness Golf Club has a history of hosting prestigious events such as four US Open’s dating back to the 1920s as well as the US PGA Championships and more recently the 2011 US Senior Open Championships.
Arguably, Inverness Club served as a gateway to professional golf’s western expansion. Before 1937, no club located outside of the original thirteen colonies hosted multiple U.S. Open Championships, other than Inverness Club and the Chicago Golf Club.
The Inverness Club looks to further golf's expansion of the Women's game this time in the shape of the coveted Solheim Cup as the club continues to make history!
