Craighead Course overview
The Craighead Links at Crail Golfing Society is the modern alternative to the Balcomie Course at Crail. Opening for play in 1998, this Gil Hanse design uses a strip of clifftop land that the club acquired, using earth movement to great effect. With no trees or natural shelter, golfers are exposed to the elements on this challenging par-72, 6722-yard links course which runs adjacent to the North Sea.
Another interesting feature of the course that was incorporated by Hanse is Danes Dyke, a defensive wall approximately 1200 years old which was constructed by Viking invaders to keep out the local Pictish tribes. This wall comes into play on four of the holes.
