Sunridge Canyon Golf Course overview
Course designer Keith Foster let nature pave the way for the layout of the golf course. The natural rolling terrain plays along the ridges and canyons of the McDowell Mountains, which can be viewed throughout the round.
The par-71 course measures 6823 yards from the back tees and has four sets of tee boxes for golfers of all abilities. Holes 13 to 18 are the signature stretch of the course and are aptly known as the “Wicked 6”. This run consists of two par 3s, two par 4s, and two par 5s that all play uphill except for the par 3s. Between the gradual yet significant uphill climb as well as the breeze that tends to blow against you, this final stretch could make or break a great round.
Signature Holes
The signature hole is the 17th, allowing golfers to have the option to either shoot a 152 yard, par-3 from an elevated tee on one round followed by a 209 yard, par-3 over a box canyon on the next. The demanding 18-hole layout uses the natural peaks and troughs of the land, to enable holes to have varying lengths and difficulty, finishing off the round with the signature 'Wicked 6' holes.
The first nine holes are played slightly downhill to embrace the demands of desert golf, whilst the back nine involves climbing back up to the clubhouse, surrounded by breath-taking views and remarkable wildlife, one of the renowned features of this course.
