Opened in May 2020, Dumbarnie is one of the newest golf courses in Scotland. Clive Clark and his design team put in an incredible amount of work to create this fantastic masterpiece located just 12 miles south of St. Andrews.

While the course is not built along the water, the waters of Largo Bay and the Firth of Forth are a fantastic backdrop that can be seen throughout the golf course. The clubhouse sits 100 feet above sea level and offers beautiful, panoramic views of the golf course, the water, and East Lothian (Scotland’s famous golf coast) in the distance.

Course overview

Unlike some of the older classics, the design team made sure to add a good amount of length to the golf course, with the tips playing slightly over 7,600 yards. The layout has three other tee box options allowing for golfers to play from their preferred tees. The shortest tees measuring 5,900 yards for the men and 5,300 yards for the women.

The course can be described as a premier links experience built amongst the dunes, with a series of undulating fairways and greens. Elevated tee boxes are also a key feature to this design offering golfers spectacular views and drivable par 4s.

While the course doesn’t play on the water, there are streams and ravines that run throughout the layout, mainly on the back 9 that cut through some of the holes making strategy a key part in playing well. There are two different holes that have split fairways, providing golfers a choice of the safe play and the risky shot.

Nearby courses & hotels

Due to the location of the golf course, you will want to stay in St. Andrews and drive out to the course at Dumbarnie Links. Dumbarnie makes for a great “on the way course” for those traveling between Edinburgh and St. Andrews as you will drive by on your route.
