Join our team on there trip to discover a different side of Majorca, where outstanding golf meets unspoiled coastline, traditional towns and exceptional value.
Winter
Spain

As a golf destination, Majorca has gone from strength to strength in recent years, cementing a reputation as one of Europe's most reliable year-round golf island. Most golfers tend to gravitate towards the south-west of the island, pairing world-class golf with a city break in Palma, staying at the fantastic Arabella resorts, or soaking up the buzz of coastal favourites like Portals Nous, Palma Nova and Santa Ponsa.

But there’s so much more to Majorca than this well-trodden corner. Beyond the south-west lies a whole other side of the island, home to beautiful beaches, charming coastal towns and most importantly, some superb golf courses that many of our clients have yet to discover.

With that in mind, we decided to send some of the team to the north-east of Majorca to experience it first-hand, explore what the region really has to offer and share our discoveries with you. We were excited to see if the North East of Majorca lived up to the same standards we have become accustomed to from the rest of the island!

Day 1: Arrival & Son Servera

It was an early start on a cold December morning, but the team were all very excited to enjoy some winter sun and the prospect of 3 days of golf. It’s much easier to get up at 4am when it is 20 degrees at your destination knowing that you will be in shorts standing on the 1st tee in less than 8 hours’ time. As usual it was a seamless flight to Palma, less than 2 hours in the air and within 30 minutes of landing, thanks to the newly remodelled Palma airport, we were in our hire car driving to Son Servera.

It was bang on 1 hour in the car to Son Servera Golf and upon arrival we were greeted by a very warm welcome from Felipe, Nacho and the team and instantly we could tell we were in for an enjoyable round. We were informed that Son Servera is the only members owned course on the island and when you hear that you know you are in for a treat and usually very good greens!

Son Serva Golf Club

The course itself is set against the backdrop of the island's beautiful landscape, dense pine trees, views of the Mediterranean Sea from its highest points and the surrounding rolling mountains. Its narrow fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and water hazards provide a tough test, yet it still boasts a very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere and that is despite facing some ‘testing’ holes.

When I say testing holes, I am primarily referring to the well renowned ‘pine trap’. I’ll be honest I didn’t know loads about the course before we played other than it had a few famous members in Rafa Nadal and Carlos Sainz Snr and Jnr, and of course the famous ‘pine trap’.

Holes 3-7 couldn’t have been more fun but in equal parts they were 4 of the tightest holes we had all played. A technical stretch of holes amongst 5,000 ‘dense’ pine, cork and olive trees, a really unique experience and certainly one that lived up to the hype!

Overall, Son Servera was the perfect start to our trip. The course was interesting, not too long but this was complimented by its technical nature forcing you to plot your way around. It was demanding whilst offering a feeling of serenity and it boosts the most beautiful clubhouse for our post round sandwich and beer.

Son Servera is best for:

  • Mid to low handicappers
  • Players who enjoy strategic, techincal golf
  • Those seeking a more authentic, members' club experience

Son Serva Golf Club

Next up was Pula Golf Resort which was less than 10 minutes in the car from Son Servera. We were stopping there for the night before playing the golf course the next day. We checked in at the pro shop which was in one of the new buildings at the resort. What was obvious straight away despite now being dusk was its traditional yet modern styling and this in turn ran throughout the entire resort.

At the heart of the resort is a beautiful 16th-century manor house, now lovingly transformed into a boutique hotel and clubhouse. It perfectly blends traditional Majorcan character with modern, contemporary comfort. Then there’s the newer side of the property, home to the pop shop, a gorgeous barn-style restaurant, and sleek, well-equipped apartments that offer a more modern way to stay, without losing any of the resort’s charm.

You would never know that the new section had only been there for 5 years blending in completely with the original building, oozing rustic-elegance and now with the additional buildings it really does feel like a small Majorcan village.

We checked into the apartments, showered, had a glass of wine on the terrace before making our way to the restaurant, S’Era da Pula. And wow, I’ve got to say this was special. We enjoyed a tasting menu which had vegetables hand-picked from the on-site garden, meat from the local area and fish straight out of the Mediterranean Sea onto our plate - everything really was so fresh and delicious. It was a top-quality experience from start to finish – what a treat!

Day 2: Pula Golf Resort

The next morning the sun was shining and despite the early start yesterday and a few glasses of wine the night before we were deceptively fresh for breakfast at 8 o'clock, and you could feel the sun slowly but surely heating up ahead of our 9 o'clock tee time.

We hit some balls on the range and enjoyed a few putts whilst taking in the gorgeous surroundings before heading to the first tee. Given its closeness to Son Servera there was no surprise that the setting felt familiar however the vastness of the piece of land was instantly apparent. Set in a peaceful Majorcan valley with views of the surrounding hills and countryside, Pula Golf Course felt more open yet equally as demanding.

Subtle elevation changes, lots of mature trees and well-protected greens (bunkering and water hazards) meant there was plenty of variation and I’ve got to say the condition for December was exceptional. We all agreed the course strikes the perfect balance between championship and enjoyable resort golf, making it popular with both low handicap golfers and the avid holiday golfer wanting to enjoy the challenge and take in the views.

The putting green at Pula Golf Club

Pula Golf certainly compliments Son Servera giving you a more championship feel compared with the more technical Son Servera. After a thoroughly enjoyable round we headed straight for the 16th century clubhouse and it was smash burgers for all, a recommendation which did not disappoint.

The tranquil and scenic setting with easy access to nearby beaches and towns makes the Pula Golf Resort appealing for both golfers and non-golfer alike, and ultimately suits anyone seeking a relaxing, authentic Mediterranean escape. You really do have it all - a spa and wellness area (with sauna, steam bath and massage rooms) as well indoor and outdoor pools and of course 2 fantastic dining options.

Pula Golf Resort exceeded all of our expectations so if you like the convenience of having golf on-site whilst still having access to local towns, Pula fits the bill and offers exceptional value for money given the high quality – we will be back!

Clubhouse at Pula Golf Club

We didn’t have far to travel to our next destination; it was only 10 minutes by car to Cala Millor for our final evening. Before we checked into the hotel, we decided to enjoy some padel tennis. In Cala Millor you have an awesome padel and tennis centre in Can Simo Padel Club. It is very easy to book, and we were able to sort 2 courts for a couple of hours a few days before our trip, something that is not quite so easy to do in the UK.

After a sweaty run out, we then headed to Iberostar Waves Cala Millor where we stayed for the night. This is a beautiful, adults-only four-star hotel with a choice of half board and all-inclusive board type options – ideal for those who want variety.

Pula Golf Resort

Dinner was booked for 20:30 so we had time to check out the spa facilities and soak our muscles after a busy day of activities. The spa and pool facilities on-site are great, it was getting dark so couldn’t use the outdoor pool area but the spa itself was high spec and modern.

We were eating on-site at the hotel but before that we nipped to one of the hotel bars and played pool while watching the football. There are a few lounge/bar areas on-site which was really cool depending on the atmosphere you wanted, and there was even a live band getting set up as we headed for dinner.

The quality and variation of the buffet was impressive with a vast selection of choice and a brilliant atmosphere. After a lovely dinner we decided to walk off the ‘’over indulgence’’ and wandered along the beachfront to check out the local bars in Cala Millor. Given that it was December we were not expecting much but wanted to get a feel for what was on offer and things were busier than we expected.

There was a decent promenade with a large selection of cafes and bars which I can imagine would be great fun during peak travel season (March to October), as well as plenty of options off the beachfront. Not everything was open, but we still managed to enjoy a couple of bars before heading back to the hotel prior to our early start the next day.

Pula Golf Resort is best for:

  • Golfers looking for a championship-style test
  • Groups with mixed handicaps
  • Travellers wanting golf and resort facilities in one place

Day 3: Capdepera Golf Club & departure

The panoramic sea view from the hotel balcony made the 07:30 alarm much easier, before heading for our final round of the trip was at Capdepera Golf Club, which is just 20 minutes in the car from Iberostar Waves Cala Millor.

We arrived to yet another gorgeous clubhouse and a warm welcome. It was an early start, but the greens had already been swept of the winter dew and we were excited to get out on the course. Compared with our other 2 rounds on the trip Capdepera certainly felt less undulating (to begin with) as we weaved our way through the soft, rolling foothills. This was until we reached the 14th hole where the next 3 holes cut into the hillside, gaining elevation and offering some spectacular views.

Capdepera Golf Club

One of our highlights was definitely the elevated 15th tee, offering stunning views across the course, countryside and out to the Mediterranean Sea. The layout has clearly been designed to blend naturally into the landscape, the fairways generally forgiving combined with well-protected greens and a tight, but enjoyable, finish as the course reaches its crescendo.

We headed straight for the terrace, and it was a toss-up between the club sandwich and the burger which we saw others on the terrace tucking into. The group was split, 4 of each were ordered, but I can confirm neither disappointed with the food and service in the clubhouse a delight – it was the perfect end to our trip.

Capdepera Golf Club is best for:

  • Golfers of all abilities
  • Those who value scenery and memorable views
  • A relaxed final round with a dramatic finish

Verdict

Whether you like to have your golf on-site at a resort or you’d prefer to stay in a town close to restaurants and bars, the North East of Majorca has it all. As a golf trip it surpassed all of our expectations and we unanimously agreed on a few takeaways:

  • The clubhouse experiences - wow! Each of the clubhouse’s were grand and could’ve easily been listed buildings. The food was top quality, and we were informed that locals come to eat at the restaurants even if they are not golfing. The clubhouses are social hubs, restaurants in their own right and really added to the overall experience of the trip.

  • Superb hospitality - Warm welcomes and smiles all round this isn’t exclusive to the northeast, but it was noticeable that the people we met went out of their way to welcome us and appreciated that we had visited this part of the island. The 1-hour drive from the airport didn’t feel long in the slightest with the fantastic road infrastructure in Majorca and then once you’ve arrived in the region, all the courses, hotels and towns are 10-20 minutes away from each other making it very convenient for getting around.

  • Value for money - considering the quality of the golf courses and accommodation in the area we were mighty impressed and even more so when you take into account the price you are paying. As above, some people may be put off by the 1-hour drive and perhaps that is why they keep the pricing competitive, but that only benefits those who do travel to the area and enjoy some great deals! You are getting an authentic Majorcan experience without breaking the bank and we can guarantee that if you give it a try you will not be disappointed.

Travel tips for golf in Majorca

  • Hire a car: Transfers between courses, resorts, and towns are straightforward, and driving times in the north-east are short and scenic.
  • Pack layers in winter: December golf is superb, but early mornings can be cool before the sun warms up.
  • Book tee times in advance: Even outside peak season, popular courses can fill up, especially for mid-morning slots.
  • Combine golf with activities: Padel, spas, beaches, and local towns add variety and suit non-golfers.
  • Don’t fear the airport transfer: The 1-hour drive from Palma is easy and opens up better value and less crowded golf experiences.
