The only Els Club in Europe, The Els Club, Vilamoura represents a modern reimagining of championship golf in the Algarve. Originally the Victoria Golf Club, on-site Victoria Resort & Spa it has been re-designed by Ernie Els, the course blends tournament-level challenge with refined playability, offering a strategic and visually striking experience for golfers of all standards.

Wide corridors from the tee provide confidence on the opening shot, but thoughtful course management is essential as the holes unfold. Subtle elevation changes, carefully shaped greens and intelligently positioned hazards ensure the course remains engaging from start to finish.

Set within a pristine natural landscape, the layout reflects a contemporary design philosophy, combining clean sightlines with strategic depth and an emphasis on shot-making.

Course Overview

Ernie Els’ design places a strong emphasis on strategic options rather than brute force. Tee shots are generally inviting, encouraging players to commit, but the best angles into the greens are rewarded to those who position the ball correctly.

Bunkering is used sparingly yet effectively, framing landing areas and approaches rather than overwhelming them. Water hazards appear selectively, most often influencing approach shots and adding an extra layer of decision-making. The greens are a standout feature, they are large, contoured and immaculately prepared which places a premium on precise iron play and confident putting.

Signature Holes

A highlight for many visitors is the signature hole, the par-5 12th, which requires both power and precision, regarded as one of the best holes in Vilamoura by many.

With water guarding much of the approach and fairway contours that invite bold decisions, it is a hole that balances risk and reward beautifully while providing dramatic views of the Algarve’s countryside.

Post round

Before redesigning and becoming an Els Club the course played host venue for the annual Portugal Masters on the European Tour, previously won by big names such as Shane Lowry, Padraig Harrington and Thomas Pieters.
