The South Course at Quinta do Lago is the resort’s crown jewel and a flagship European Tour venue, originally designed in 1974 by William Mitchell. It’s a par-72 championship course measuring about 7,108 metres from the championship tees. Set amid umbrella pines, lakes, and wildflowers, and overlooking the serene Ria Formosa Natural Park, the South Course combines natural beauty with golf of the highest standard.

In 2020-2021, the South Course underwent a comprehensive €7 million renovation. Upgrades included resurfacing fairways, refurbished tees, bunkers restored (including improvements in drainage and sand), reworked green surrounds, and mudanças to several holes to enhance playability and visual appeal. The course is ranked #3 in the Algarve region by Top 100 Golf Courses.

Signature Holes

Hole 3 (Par 4) - A downhill par 4 where water guards the green. Demands accuracy from tee to approach and offers one of the course’s most scenic views.

Hole 17 (Par 5) - A classic risk-reward hole with a lake running the length of the fairway. Big hitters can go for it in two, but danger lurks for any mis-hit.
