Kilspindie Golf Club

Originally formed in 1867 and called Luffness Golf Club, which at the time was the 35th registered club in the world, Kilspindie is located along Scotland’s Golf Coast just 40 minutes east of Edinburgh.

In the late 1890s, Luffness New Golf Club was opened on the other side of Aberlady Bay causing a rift in the membership and resulting in the renaming of Luffness to Kilspindie Golf Club. Today it is regarded as one of Scotland’s historical gems and is a fantastic inclusion into any East Lothian golf trip itinerary.

Kilspindie Golf Course overview

Designed by Willie Park and Ben Sayers, and relatively untouched over the past 120 years, Kilspindie is a shorter course at around 5500 yards off the tips. What it lacks in length however it more than makes up for in character, charm, and quirkiness.

There is one par-5 and four par-3s, with seven of the thirteen par-4s less than 300 yards in length. The views across the Firth of Forth are beautiful and with Aberlady Bay being a British Nature Reserve, the birdlife is abundant. Kilspindie is consistently ranked amongst Scotland’s top 60 courses and we highly recommend playing this little gem as a warm-up for the bigger links in the region.

Signature hole

The 8th is a beauty and plays across a sandy bay. Legend has it that there were two holes in one on consecutive days during an event here, the first with a wedge and the second with a 3-wood…and the hole is only 162-yards long!

Did You Know?

There are two stone structures on the course called the ‘Target’ and the ‘Magazine’, on the 5th and 12th tees respectively, which were both actively used in the early days when the club shared the golf course with the local rifle club.
