Having explored some of the other Canary Islands in the past, I was eagerly waiting for the opportunity to get onto the lush green fairways of Gran Canaria. It was fantastic to experience the island from a golfer’s perspective and see the way this volcanic work of art has developed into a world-class tourist destination and golfer’s hotspot.

Many regard the island as a miniature continent and it’s easy to see why. From its rich culture, top-class courses and hotels, excellent nightlife, vibrant beaches and hillside towns filled with character and colour, it is a versatile destination that caters for all.

Maspalomas

As you can see from the video above, there are a range of excellent courses to play on the island. Situated in the resort town of Maspolamos, the Maspolamos Golf club is the perfect course for a few warmup rounds. Bordered by sand dunes and very close to the beach, it’s the unbelievable views and fun, light-hearted environment that makes this a great course. The town itself is very lively with lots going on, especially at night. There is a wide range of bars and restaurants offering local, traditional Mediterranean and continental cuisine using fresh high-quality ingredients.

Maspalomas golf course

Naturally built into the Volcanic rock, Salobre Hotel resort & Serenity 5* offers two fantastic courses, the Salobre Old ‘The Beauty’ and the Salobre New ‘The Beast’. I found that the old course is perfect for a classic game of golf and the new course offers brand new stunning holes with bright green fairways contrasting to the dusty desert rock. The beautiful modern 5* hotel is the ideal place for golfers to stay. The rooms are modern and luxurious and the service is even better.

  • There are plenty of outdoor activities to do off the course including, water sports, biking and going on one of the islands many hiking trails.

  • While summer is the warmest time of the year, tickets are cheaper in winter and the weather is still great.

  • For both top class accommodation and amazing golf on-site, the Salobre Hotel resort & Serenity 5* is the ideal place.

  • Experience the family holiday destination which is growing its golf profile every year.
