Recently, I headed to Spain’s stunning Costa Dorada for a trip at Infinitum, just an hour south of Barcelona. Travelling in October, the conditions were a bit mixed, with cooler mornings and the occasional rain shower, but still perfectly playable and comfortable once the day got going.
Getting there was straightforward. I flew from Heathrow into Barcelona, and from there it’s an easy one-hour transfer down the coast to the resort, making it a really accessible option for a short golf break.
Cambrils, where we stayed, is an authentic Spanish fishing town full of charm. Staying at Hotel Marina, a modern 4-star property in the centre, meant we were right among the locals. Rooftop breakfasts, spacious rooms, and a relaxed atmosphere made it a great base, though access can be slightly tricky due to narrow streets.
There are plenty of reasons to visit this region. Between newly renovated championship golf, authentic Spanish towns, and a mix of relaxed and lively atmospheres, it offers something for every type of traveller. Whether you want culture, coastline, or great golf, this trip ticks every box.
Day 1 – Infinitum Hills Course
We kicked things off at the Hills Course, set high above the coastline with sweeping views across the surrounding towns and even Ferrari World in the distance. It’s a layout with serious potential, and with Q-School final qualifying set to be hosted here, it’s clearly a course with pedigree.
The back nine really stood out. Newly renovated greens and fresh bunkers made it a pleasure to play. The front nine, however, is still finding its feet following renovation work, with patchier fairways and less refined bunkering. That said, you can already see what it will become. Once everything beds in, this course will be exceptional.

Infinitum Hills Course
Hills Course overview:
Signature hole: A standout moment comes on the elevated holes across the back nine, where panoramic views stretch across the coastline and surrounding landscape, making it as scenic as it is challenging.
3 reasons I recommend Infinitum Hills:
- Championship course set to host DP World Tour Q-School final qualifying.
- Elevated layout with incredible panoramic views across the Costa Dorada.
- Huge long-term potential once renovations are fully complete.
Bonus fact: The back nine renovations are complete, with the full course expected to reach its peak condition by Spring 2027 alongside the opening of the on-site hotel.

Day 2 – Infinitum Lakes Course
The following day, we took on the Lakes Course, a Greg Norman design and a completely different experience. Where the Hills Course is dramatic and testing, Lakes is more forgiving off the tee, with wider fairways and a more playable layout.
Water features come into play throughout, but it never feels overly punishing. Instead, it strikes a great balance between challenge and enjoyment. What really stood out were the greens, easily some of the best I’ve played in the past year.
Overall, the condition here was excellent. Lush fairways and pristine greens throughout made it the standout course of the trip.

Lakes Course overview:
Signature hole: The water-lined holes across the back nine stand out, combining risk and reward with visually striking approaches framed by lakes and natural surroundings.
3 reasons I recommend Infinitum Lakes:
- Greg Norman design offering a more forgiving and enjoyable playing experience.
- Exceptional green quality, among the best you’ll find in Spain.
- Beautifully maintained course with water features adding both strategy and scenery.
Bonus fact: The Lakes Course currently sets the benchmark at Infinitum, showcasing the level both courses are expected to reach once renovations are complete.

Day 3 – Exploring Cambrils, Salou & Tarragona
Beyond the golf, the region offers a fantastic mix of destinations, each with its own character, and our final day was dedicated to exploring it properly.
We started the day in Cambrils, where we’d been based throughout the trip. This authentic fishing town offers a slower, more traditional side of the Costa Dorada. Mornings here feel relaxed, with locals filling the cafés and the harbour setting the tone for the day.

Cabrils port
From there, we travelled to Salou to experience a completely different atmosphere. The energy here is instantly noticeable, with bars, restaurants, and beachside spots creating a much livelier feel. It’s easy to see why this area appeals to those looking to combine golf with nightlife and entertainment.
We visited Hotel Blaumar, where the large pool, varied dining options, and family-friendly setup make it a great option depending on the style of trip you’re after.

Later in the afternoon, we continued on to Tarragona, where the pace shifts once again. Steeped in history, the city is full of Roman ruins, a striking cathedral, and winding old streets that are perfect for exploring. We stopped by H10 Imperial Tarraco, where the rooftop pool and bar offer incredible views across the sea and the city, easily one of the standout viewpoints of the trip.
That evening was the perfect finale. Tucked away in the streets of Tarragona, El Cup Vell is a true hidden gem. With just two tables, it offers an intimate dining experience unlike anywhere else. The chef personally talked us through each dish, pairing fresh, local ingredients with a fantastic wine selection. It was a memorable way to end the trip and a reminder that some of the best experiences happen away from the golf course.

Tarragona
Beyond the Fairways
Of course, this region isn’t just about golf. There’s plenty to experience away from the courses:
- Explore the Towns: From the authentic charm of Cambrils to the historic streets of Tarragona, there’s something for every type of traveller.
- Beaches & Coastline: The Costa Dorada offers beautiful Mediterranean beaches, perfect for relaxing after a round.
- Food & Drink: Fresh seafood, local wines, and hidden gems like El Cup Vell make this a fantastic destination for food lovers.
Verdict
Infinitum and the surrounding Costa Dorada region offer something refreshingly different. It combines high-quality, evolving golf with authentic Spanish culture and a variety of destinations to suit different tastes.
