Whilst golf may not be at the forefront when you think Las Vegas, it has in fact long established itself as a popular golfing destination – and for good reason. With a grand collection of golf courses, both private and public, and a long list of off the course activities, a vacation to the Entertainment Capital of the World should sit at the summit of your priority list.
Below, we showcase some of the best resorts and courses that are surrounded by the vast and expansive Nevada desert, perfect for your next Las Vegas golf trip.
If you’re looking for an accommodation option that comes equipped with golfing privileges, then Westin Lake Las Vegas can provide just that. The resort has an optimal blend of adventure, relaxation, and luxury, and is ideally situated only 20 minutes away from the Las Vegas strip. A major benefit to guests staying at the resort is gaining access to South Shore Country Club, a private course that was designed by Jack Nicklaus. Moreover, you’ll also be able to experience Reflection Bay course, another Nicklaus design that requires a double carry over water for your opening shot – good luck!
Located just 25 minutes northwest of Las Vegas Strip, there are three courses to choose from when visiting Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, all of which have been designed by iconic figure Pete Dye. The Snow Mountain, Sun Mountain and Wolf Course are the three loops that can be experienced, and they all offer slightly differing tests to one another – although they all measure over 7,000 yards from the tips.
The fairways present on Sun Mountain are generous, but the swirling wind can make club selection vitally important. The Wolf Course measures an unbelievable 7,600 yards from the furthest tees, but there are five tee boxes to accommodate all levels of golfer. Finally, Snow Mountain can be summarised like its sibling, Sun Mountain, although it is considered to be the more difficult of the two.
MGM Grand Hotel & Casino is located in the heart of the Las Vegas strip, and this 4* hotel is one of the most sought-after accommodation options within the area. With a casino, nightclub or entertainment show located on-site, you’ll seldom be questioning how to spend your evenings.
If you have booked accommodation at an MGM property, such as the MGM Grand, then you’ll have access to Shadow creek – providing the $600 green fee does not deter you! All bookings must be made through your MGM concierge and additional luxury packages are reserved for high priority visitors.
When Shadow Creek opened in 1989, it was initially restricted and therefore, one of the most exclusive golf courses throughout America. However, since its opening, it has become available for public play and this is the destination where Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods vied off against one another for The Match that took place in 2018. Tom Fazio and Andy Banfield collaborated for this design, which features unbelievable scenery that is further augmented by its majestic backdrop of the distant mountains. From a visual perspective, golf courses are seldom crafted as beautiful as this.
Situated conveniently in the heart of Vegas and only five minutes from the MGM Grand, lies Bali Hai. Co-designed by Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley, the lush surroundings of the layout dominate your round and a total of 4,000 trees are present throughout the loop. Bali Hai is also the home of the ParMates program, which assigns payers to a female caddie and something, we suspect, only possible in the state of Nevada!
If you’re looking for a golf course that frequently hosts the best golfers in the world, then look no further than TPC Las Vegas, situated 20 minutes north-west of the bustling Vegas strip. Designed by Bobby Weed and Raymond Floyd in 1996, this historic club is commonly ranked within the Top 100 Golf Courses in North America.
Red Rock Canyon provides a unique backdrop and the course is a combination of traditional holes and desert golf to create this unique experience. Measuring at a touch over 7,000 yards from the tips, there’s a reason why the PGA Tour’s Shriner’s Hospitals for Children Open is held here on an annual basis.
Due to its shaping of a pyramid, Luxor Resort & Casino is one of the most recognizable buildings throughout the Las Vegas strip. The hotel features a casino, live entertainment, numerous swimming pools, a hot tub, and an incredible spa. With so many golf courses located near the resort, you’ll be able to gain access to formidable hubs such as Rio Secco, Paiute, TPC Las Vegas, Cascata, Bali Hai, and for the extremely fortunate, Shadow Creek. Luxor is also the second-largest hotel on the strip and with more than 4,400 rooms, it is also highly popular.
Many popular golf courses or facilities in America now come equipped with real estate lining the perimeter of the course. You’ll be glad to know that Cascata does not contain any housing around its layout – which is strengthened through the lush fairways and sensational desert backdrop. Again, Cascata is located just south of Las Vegas and the golf course is simply a Rees Jones masterpiece. Canyons, ridges, ravines, and the undulating desert layout help to contribute to the distinctiveness of Cascata. With the absence of the modern world near its premises, a trip to Cascata is truly a journey to heaven.
Another Rees Jones design, another enticing and appealing golf course. Folding over the rugged desert foothills, that overlook Las Vegas, lies Serket. Having undergone renovation in 2017, the project enabled the club to reclaim and enhance features that made Serket so unique when it officially opened in 1997: this is desert golf at its finest.
Bellagio is one of the most famous hotels that belong to Las Vegas, and the AAA Five Diamond hotel can provide phenomenal dining experiences and proudly boasts a collection of some of the finest rooms available in Las Vegas. In total, there are 3,933 incredible rooms available, which includes six varieties of guestrooms. If you are staying at Bellagio, then we recommend playing either Cascata Golf Club, Rio Secco Golf Club, Paiute Golf Resort, or Bali Hai Golf Club, all of which are situated close to the hotel’s location.
