The island of Lanzarote, the easternmost of Spain’s Canary Islands, is a striking destination where volcanic landscapes meet ocean views, and where a golf getaway can be effortlessly combined with rich culture and coastal charm.

Over the course of four days, I had the chance to explore this unique island from a golfer’s perspective - playing two of its standout courses, enjoying fresh local cuisine, and discovering what makes Lanzarote such an appealing choice for a long weekend escape.

From the lively resort town of Puerto del Carmen to the serene vineyards of La Geria, each day brought a new highlight.

Day 1 – A warm welcome in Lanzarote

The trip began with an afternoon flight from London Luton to Lanzarote, followed by a short 20-minute transfer to the Vic San Antonio Hotel in Puerto del Carmen. This is the ideal base for a golf trip given its proximity to the town centre and local golf courses, which are all within a 20-minute drive away.

The flight was 4 hours 15 minutes. Golfers can access Lanzarote from throughout the UK, with direct flights from major airports such as Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

Puerto del Carmen is a great resort town on the southeast coast of Lanzarote, famous for its beautiful beaches and Old Town Harbour. The town features a lively promenade lined with restaurants, bars, and shops, offering stunning ocean views and a vibrant nightlife.

We had dinner at Café La Ola, a coastal restaurant with a vibrant atmosphere just a 15-minute walk from the hotel. The set menu featured a cheese board to start, followed by prawns in a garlic and mushroom sauce, ham croutons, and a choice of steak or seabass for the main. Dessert was a brownie with ice cream - a strong finish to a great first evening, which left me looking forward to the coming days!

Day 2 – Golf & Cactus Gardens

We started the day at Costa Teguise Golf Club, ranked as the 7th best course in the Canary Islands by Top 100 Golf Course and just a 20-minute drive from the hotel. It’s a captivating 18-hole, par-72 championship course located at the base of ancient volcano with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean.

The layout is suitable for both high- and low-handicappers, providing a genuine challenge – especially when the wind is up as it was for us. It was great fun to play and was a true pleasure to experience the amazing views!

In the afternoon, we explored The Catcus Garden, a botanical garden in Guatiza to the northeast of the island. This was a unique and peaceful spot that offered something a bit different from the usual golf-focused itinerary.

After some time to relax, we headed back to Long Beach Club for dinner. Another set menu, just like the night before, with great food and an energetic atmosphere to end the day. The terrace was fantastic, with views of Playa Grande and the ocean from every table – I’d highly recommend!

Day 3 – Golf, ocean views & Puerto del Carmen

Today we played at Golf Lanzarote, a volcanic golf links with a great layout and stunning ocean views throughout the round. The conditions were good, and it offered an enjoyable mix of holes - think wide fairways, gentle slopes, and plenty of sunshine year-round. It’s suitable for all skill levels, but breezy conditions can add an extra challenge!

Golf Lanzarote is conveniently located just 10 minutes from Puerto del Carmen and 10-minutes from Lanzarote Airport, making it a great course to play on the day of arrival or departure.

After a fun round, we had lunch at the clubhouse - an à la carte set menu that hit the spot.

In the afternoon, we visited Hotel Fariones, a standout property in a fantastic location. This is a beautiful five-star hotel located slightly closer to the town center, with plenty to do nearby and direct access to the beachfront.

We ended the day with dinner at the hotel before heading out for a stroll through Puerto del Carmen, checking out the local shops and soaking up the atmosphere. Another great day on the island!

Day 4 – A quiet morning in La Geria & departure

We wrapped up the trip with a relaxed brunch at El Aljibe, set in the peaceful surroundings of La Geria and the Volcanoes Natural Park. The location was special - a mix of traditional architecture and striking volcanic landscape, offering a different perspective on the island.

After brunch, it was time to head to the airport for the flight back to London. A great few days all round, with a nice balance of golf, local culture, and time to explore.

Final thoughts

It was an incredibly enjoyable few days in Lanzarote. The mix of golf, good food, and time to explore made for a well-rounded trip – with a little something for every traveller. The island has a lot to offer, both on and off the course, and it was great to experience what our clients can expect.

Travel tips for Lanzarote

Lanzarote enjoys a mild climate year-round, making it a fantastic golf destination in any season. However, the best time to play golf is between October and May, when temperatures are pleasantly warm (around 20–25°C) and the trade winds are milder - perfect for a relaxed round.

Pack light, breathable clothing, a hat, and plenty of sun tan lotion, as the sun can be strong even on breezy days. A light jacket or pullover is also a good idea for early morning tee times or evening dinners by the coast.
