Mauritius is undeniably one of the most luxurious destinations on the planet. From the five-star all-inclusive hotels to the crystal-clear waters; the bright white beaches to the unrivalled tranquillity, there’s nowhere else quite like this tropical island.

Recent decades have seen the excellence of its offering rolled out to the golf courses, creating arguably the most enviable golfing location on the planet. Join us for a whistlestop tour of four of the best golf destinations in Mauritius.

  • Belle Mare
  • Le Morne
  • Bel Ombre
  • Trou-aux-Biches

Belle Mare

Towards the north-east of the island, and around an hour from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, you’ll find the region of Belle Mare. We have three main locations in this area, which boast some of the longest uninterrupted stretches of beaches on the island.

The first of our offerings here is the magnificent Constance Belle Mare Plage. The resort oozes five-star luxury and is home to two fantastic golf courses – each with complimentary shuttle service from the hotel. The Legend Golf Course is a regular stop for the Seniors Tour, with some of the best-known names in the sport always keen to make the trip to this beautiful layout. Alongside The Legend Golf Course, you’ll also find the Links Course. Opened in 2002, the Links is slightly more undulating, and set within some stunning natural terrain.

Constance Belle Mare Plage

We could talk all day about the quality of the hotel and wider resort here, with its seven on-site restaurants and additional six standalone bars – but we’d encourage you to check out more about Constance Belle Mare Plage.

If you’re looking for a resort that perfectly pairs the beauty of Mauritius with the buzz of a modern resort, then you should definitely check out Long Beach Golf & Spa Resort. Without its own course on-site, Long Beach takes advantage of the many great courses nearby, giving you ultimate flexibility on your trip.

What’s more, our packages here generally come with unlimited golf, meaning you can play as much or as little as you’d like!

Long Beach Golf & Spa Resort

Finally, for groups looking to put the beach at the heart of their break, we’d strongly recommend Ambre Resort & Spa. We think that this four-star beauty is one of the best value properties on the island, and also benefits from a location near to some of the islands best courses, including Ile Aux Cerfs and Anahita. It’s also adults-only, which we know some of our guests love!

Plus, there’s few, if any, better places to kick back after a day on the course than the bright white beach at Ambre Resort.

Le Morne

Across the other side of the island on the Le Morne Peninsula in the south-west of the island you’ll find the Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, one of the finest luxury resorts on the entire island. This secluded beachfront location looks out towards Le Morne Mountain and the Indian Ocean, and is home to Le Paradis Golf Course.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the course and resort look familiar to Golfbreaks customers, as we regularly use images of this spectacular location across our website! (Like the one below)

Like Belle Mare, Le Morne is also around an hour from the island’s main airport, albeit in the opposite direction! In addition to Le Paradis Golf Course, there’s plenty to keep you busy around the resort, whether you’d like to explore the surrounding areas on foot, bike, or by sea. The scuba and snorkelling here is second-to-none, and so we’d recommend packing your goggles for your trip!

Le Paradis Golf Course

Bel Ombre

Slightly closer to the airport, and further around Mauritius’ southern coastline, the region of Bel Ombre is home to two fantastic Heritage Resorts. Both the Hertiage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort and the Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort are excellent five-star hotels and benefit from access to the fabulous Heritage Golf Club.

The Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort is an African-inspired destination, packed with environmental initiatives to help it gain the Green Key eco-label. The resort overlooks the local lagoon as well as the ocean itself, with the beachfront bars here some of our favourite on the island.

Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort

The Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness is a member of the ‘Small Luxury Hotels of The World’ and takes more of its inspiration from traditional Mauritian architecture. The resort is home to some incredible local cuisine, notably at the Gin’ja restaurant situated on the beach, and at Annabella’s which overlooks the river. As you’d imagine, there’s plenty to do both on the resort and out on the water – including exploration of the Heritage Nature Reserve.

If all this wasn’t enough there’s another course due for imminent opening at Heritage Golf Club. LA Reserva Golf Links is due to host the 2023 Mauritius Open and is described as the first true links course in the Indian Ocean.

Trou-aux-Biches

Our final stop on our Mauritian tour is on the far north of the island and is ideal for those looking for a quiet and secluded getaway. Our main resort in the area is the Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, with 306 luxury suites, as well as 27 standalone villas (with all accompanied by their own private swimming pool).

The destination is partnered with the stunning Mont Choisy Le Golf Course, built on a former sugar plantation. It boasts a beautiful routing through volcanic rock and natural water features, although only stretches back to 6,200 yards, making it eminently playable by all.

Elsewhere in the region, the Canonnier Beachcomber Golf & Resort is a superb modern and ultra-trendy spot. It is available for both half-board and all-inclusive golf holidays for those looking to take full advantage of the excellent restaurants on-site, including Le Frangipanier – the resort’s main restaurant which features spectacular live cooking by the expert chefs in an open kitchen!
