Craigtoun Course overview

Par: 71 | Yardage: 7,125 yards | Designed by: Peter Thompson | Course type: Heathland

Golf has been played in the St Andrews area for centuries and Craigtoun Course offers golfers the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed and welcoming round just minutes from the Old Course. The eighth addition to the St Andrews Links collection, set within the scenic grounds of Craigtoun Country Park, just south of St Andrews, the course provides an enjoyable contrast to the famous championship links found nearby.

Previously The Duke's Course, Craigtoun may not carry the international profile of its illustrious neighbours, it is highly regarded for its friendly atmosphere, attractive parkland setting and accessible layout. Its convenient location makes it an excellent addition to any golf trip to Fife, whether as a warm-up round or a more relaxed day away from the coastline.

Golf course overview

Inspired by the Australian sand belt courses in Melbourne, Craigtoun places an emphasis on accuracy, course management and strong approach play. Tree-lined fairways, gentle elevation changes and well-protected greens combine to create an enjoyable and varied test for golfers of all abilities.

Sheltered from the coastal winds that often affect nearby links courses, Craigtoun provides a calmer playing experience and is a popular choice in less favourable weather conditions.

Five-time Open Champion Peter Thomson created the original 1995 design on former Craigtoun estate farmland, establishing Scotland's sole non-links venue within the historic town.

Signature hole

As you approach the end of your round, you'll face one of the standout holes on the Craigtoun Course. The par-3 17th could make or break your round. At 175 yards it isn't the longest par-3 you'll play, but with steep bunkers waiting for a wayward shots and a tricky green any par scored is should be well received.

Post round

After your round, golfers can relax at the elevated clubhouse, which overlooks the 9th and 18th green. It is the ideal spot to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat while reflecting on your round.

With Craigtoun Country Park on your doorstep and St Andrews just a short drive away, there are plenty of options to continue the day, whether that’s a stroll through the park, a visit into town or heading onwards to another of Fife’s renowned golf courses.
