The South Course, formerly the Legends Course, is the more forgiving sister layout at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, but no less impressive. Originally crafted by Dick Wilson and Joe Lee, it was reimagined in 2013 by Damian Pascuzzo and Steve Pate, creating a beautifully balanced course that embraces modern playability while retaining its original charm.

With wide fairways, generous landing zones, and picturesque water features, the South Course offers a relaxed yet strategic round - ideal for golfers of all abilities seeking a fun and visually stunning experience under the California sun.

Course overview

The South Course flows gracefully through the Carlsbad landscape, featuring open fairways bordered by mature trees and ornamental lakes. It measures just under 7,000 yards, providing an enjoyable challenge without the punishing difficulty of its sister course.

Pascuzzo and Pate’s redesign focused on enhancing playability and visual appeal. Contoured greens, sculpted bunkers, and repositioned water hazards ensure the course remains engaging and fair from every tee. Strategic thinkers will appreciate the placement of hazards that invite decision-making, while higher-handicap players can still score well with smart course management.

The course captures the relaxed rhythm of coastal California golf - playable, scenic, and beautifully maintained.

Signature Holes

• Hole 10 (Par 5): A memorable dogleg left framed by trees and water, offering a true risk-reward opportunity. Long hitters can reach in two, but accuracy is crucial to avoid the creek guarding the green.

• Hole 15 (Par 3): A short but testing par-3 over water to a narrow, two-tiered green — as visually striking as it is nerve-testing.

• Hole 17 (Par 4): With a downhill tee shot and bunkers positioned perfectly in the landing area, this hole rewards those who shape the ball confidently off the tee.
