Celtic Manor Montgomerie Course overview
Location: Newport, Wales | Style: Parkland | Length: 6,371 yards | Par: 69
Designed by Colin Montgomerie, one of Europe’s most celebrated Ryder Cup captains, The Montgomerie Course at Celtic Manor Golf Resort offers the drama of a modern parkland layout. Opened in 2007, this spectacular course features rolling fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and panoramic views across the Usk Valley and Severn Estuary.
Montgomerie’s design draws heavily on his Scottish heritage, incorporating deep pot bunkers, creative mounding, and greenside swales to create a layout that rewards strategy and precision over raw power. The result is a course that feels timeless yet thrilling, offering golfers of all abilities an authentic and memorable challenge in a stunning Welsh setting.

Signature Hole
The par-five 12th is The Montgomerie’s most spectacular hole, and one that golfers never forget. After driving to the crest of a rise, players are greeted with a fairway that tumbles downhill like an alpine ski slope, framed by tall pine trees on either side.
The approach opens to reveal stunning views across Wentwood Forest and the lakes of the Twenty Ten Course below, creating one of the most memorable views in Welsh golf.
Clubhouse & amenities
Golfers playing the course enjoy full access to Celtic Manor’s world-class facilities, including:
- Expansive practice areas, with a driving range, putting greens, and short-game zones
- The Greenside Grill, offering breakfast, lunch, and light bites with scenic views over the 10th tee, ideal for a mid-round break
- Buggy hire recommended, due to the course’s hilly terrain and dramatic elevation changes
- Resort facilities, including luxury accommodation, fine dining, and a relaxing spa just minutes away
Did You Know?
- From several elevated tees, golfers can see both the Severn Estuary and the Usk Valley, making The Montgomerie one of the most beautiful courses in the UK.
