About the Solheim Cup

After the inaugural Cup was held in 1990, Team USA dominated proceedings before the turn of the century. But Team Europe have come fighting back, with their most famous win coming at Loch Lomond, the last time the matches were played on the British Isle.

USA legend Juli Inkster has reinvigorated the American team, with their tight victory in 2015 being the closest Solheim Cup since its inception. But with a host of young talent likely to be in the ranks – Hull, Pedersen, Hall – and experienced major winners – Nordqvist, Matthew – the confidence of Team Europe is likely to be high going into 2019!

How does it work?

In a foursome two teams compete, each consisting of two players. Players in a team take turns to hit the same ball.

In a fourball game two teams compete, each consisting of two players. In each team, each golfer plays using her own ball, and the best result counts.

On the day of the final an American plays a European in each match. The winner is the one who wins the most of the 18 holes.
