Golf course at Pine Needles overview

Originally opened in 1927, Pine Needles is one of Donald Ross' finest creations and remains remarkably faithful to his original vision. Carefully restored over the years, the course showcases Ross' timeless design philosophy, rewarding strategic play, precision iron shots and thoughtful course management rather than sheer power.

Playing through rolling terrain lined by majestic pine trees, the course features generous fairways, subtle elevation changes and Ross' trademark crowned and undulating greens that demand accuracy on approach and a deft touch with the putter. With multiple teeing options, golfers of all abilities can enjoy the challenge, although the course has more than enough bite to test even the most accomplished players. Pine Needles perfectly blends championship pedigree with playability, making it an essential stop on any North Carolina golf vacation.

Signature Holes at Pine Needles

Pine Needles is filled with memorable holes, but a few stand out amongst this classic Donald Ross layout...

3rd hole: A picturesque par-3 that requires a precise tee shot over water to a well-guarded green, offering one of the course's most photographed views.

10th hole: The second longest hole on the course, the par-5 10th is a sharp dog leg left, typically framed by huge pine trees. Carefully placed bunkers make the hole a three shot hole for most.

Post round

After your round, unwind on the clubhouse veranda or enjoy a meal in the dining room overlooking the course. The relaxed atmosphere perfectly complements the timeless character of Pine Needles, making it an ideal place to reflect on your round, share stories from the day and appreciate one of America's most historic golf venues.
