Mid Pines Golf Club Overview
Mid Pines Golf Club is one of the most celebrated courses in North Carolina, located just minutes from the heart of Southern Pines and Pinehurst. As you arrive, the charming clubhouse immediately transports you to a bygone era, with its classic architecture and welcoming Southern hospitality. The relaxed atmosphere makes you feel at home from the moment you step inside, whether browsing the well-stocked pro shop or enjoying a drink before your round.
Take advantage of the excellent practice facilities before heading to the first tee, where one of the purest examples of Donald Ross golf architecture awaits.
Golf course at Mid Pines
A contender for one of Donald Ross' finest creations, Mid Pines Golf Club is a masterclass in strategic design. Set amongst towering longleaf pines, rolling terrain and the natural sandy landscape of North Carolina's famed Sandhills, the course rewards thoughtful shot-making rather than sheer power.
Following a meticulous restoration by renowned architect Kyle Franz, Mid Pines now plays much as Ross originally intended, with exposed sandy areas, firm running fairways and beautifully contoured greens that place a premium on precision and creativity. While generous off the tee, the course continually asks players to think their way around the layout, making club selection and course management just as important as execution.
Measuring just over 6,700 yards from the championship tees, Mid Pines remains enjoyable for golfers of all abilities thanks to multiple tee options, proving that classic design can provide both challenge and fun without excessive length. It remains one of the quintessential Sandhills golf experiences and a must-play on any North Carolina golf vacation.
Signature Holes at Mid Pines
Every hole at Mid Pines possesses classic Donald Ross character, but a few stand out among the rest.
15th hole: A lengthy par-5 measuring 542-yards off the back tees, and heavily bunkered including two brilliantly designed bunkers to make it tougher for the bigger hitters to reach the green in two
18th hole: A memorable finishing par-4 that climbs gently back towards the clubhouse, requiring two well-struck shots to reach the subtly sloping green and complete your round in style.
