About THE PLAYERS Championship
Established in 1974, THE PLAYERS Championship is the flagship event of the PGA TOUR and was created by then PGA TOUR commissioner, Deane Beaman, to be a premium golf tournament on tour. THE PLAYERS is considered one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world, drawing a field of the Top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking and those who qualify by winning specific golf tournaments. Many of golf’s greatest players have hoisted the coveted trophy including the likes of Jack Nicklaus (3x), Tiger Woods (2x), Rory McIlroy, Fred Couples, Scottie Scheffler, and more!
About TPC Sawgrass
THE PLAYERS Championship jumped around for the first couple of years of its existence before finally settling on the current site, Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. The course usually plays right around 7,200 yards which makes it one of the toughest tests in golf. TPC Sawgrass, located in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL just south of Jacksonville, opened in 1980 and was the brainchild of the renowned Pete and Alice Dye. The par-72 layout is most recognizable by the 17th hole par-3 island green which takes a calculated 137-yard shot to avoid a big number on the scorecard. The course record is held by Tom Hoge who shot a round of 62 during the third round of THE PLAYERS Championship in 2023.
