There's a special magic about a golf destination that shines through, even when you're not hitting the fairways yourself. I recently had the pleasure of visiting County Wexford on a supplier trip, and while I didn't get to play a single round (a real shame, I know!), I was incredibly impressed by the vibrant golf scene, the stunning courses, and the genuine warmth of the people.
If you're looking to arrange a golf break in Ireland, Wexford definitely has it all.

For my trip, I flew into Dublin, and it was a surprisingly quick and easy couple of hours' drive down to Rosslare. What's brilliant about Rosslare is that once you've arrived, you're pretty much right there amidst the action. You don't need much driving until it's time for your return journey, making it a truly relaxing base.
For clients travelling from different parts of the UK, the Stena Line ferry service offers a fantastic and convenient option, sailing directly into Rosslare Europort from Fishguard. This means you can load up your golf clubs, bring your car, and enjoy a comfortable crossing directly to the heart of the Sunny Southeast. It's an excellent, stress-free way to start your Wexford adventure.
Wexford Golf Course
I travelled in May, and it was perfect playing conditions. Usually, any time between April and October is a great time to visit - I’d recommend the following:
Golfers on the course at The Old Course at Rosslare Golf Club
We opted for a split stay, experiencing two excellent hotels that offered distinct charm and comfort:
A double double room and the restaurant at the Whites of Wexford
And now, for the main stars of the show – the courses themselves! While I didn't get to tee off, I had the privilege of seeing four truly brilliant clubs, each leaving a lasting impression:
Rosslare Golf Club: This links course is truly something special. Situated on a narrow peninsula, it boasts incredible seaside views and offers a classic links challenge. What stood out to me most, however, was the incredible atmosphere in the clubhouse. At 10 am, it was absolutely buzzing with over 50 people – ladies and men – all chatting, laughing, and genuinely enjoying each other's company before or after their rounds. The friendliness and vibrant community spirit here were truly infectious and made a huge impression.
Arklow Golf Club: Combining elements of both links and parkland, Arklow Golf Club looked beautifully maintained and offered a diverse layout. From what I saw, it demands strategic play and looked like a thoroughly engaging course.
Wexford Golf Club: Perched high with magnificent views over Wexford town and the sea, this parkland course boasts magnificent panoramic vistas. The changes in elevation offer a visually stunning experience, and the course itself appeared pristine and inviting.
Woodenbridge Golf Club: Tucked away in the beautiful Vale of Avoca, Woodenbridge is often heralded as "Ireland's Augusta," and it's easy to see why. The Avoca and Aughrim rivers gracefully weave through the course, creating stunning natural beauty and demanding precise shot placement. It's a truly picturesque and challenging course that leaves a lasting visual impact.
Woodenbridge Golf Club
From the delightful weather to the warm hospitality and the obvious quality of the golfing facilities, my Wexford visit was a resounding success. Even as an observer, I came away incredibly impressed by the beauty and vibrancy of this golfing region.
With excellent ferry links via Stena Line for our UK clients, and an easy drive from Dublin for others, getting here is a breeze, and once you're in Rosslare, everything feels conveniently close. If you're planning a golf trip, Wexford truly delivers exceptional value compared to the higher prices often found in Dublin. You won't be disappointed!

Where is Wexford, and why is it a good golf destination?
Wexford is in southeast Ireland, known for its coastal beauty, welcoming towns, and high-quality golf courses. It’s less crowded than Dublin or Kerry, making it an emerging hotspot for golf tourism.
What are the best golf courses in Wexford?
Standout golf courses in Wexford include:
What makes golf in Wexford unique?
Wexford combines links and parkland golf, cultural attractions, and less-discovered charm. It offers authentic Irish hospitality with more affordable packages compared to traditional hotspots like Dublin.
What’s the best time to play golf in Wexford?
The ideal time is spring (April–June) and autumn (September) when weather conditions are mild and courses are in prime condition. Summer is also popular, but busier.
How accessible is Wexford?
Wexford is about a 90-minute drive south from Dublin Airport, making it convenient for international and British arrivals. Shannon and Cork airports also provide access within 2 to 3 hours. Alternatively, for British visitors looking to take their car, we'd recommend taking the ferry from Fishguard (southwest Wales) to Rosslare, which is a 20-minute drive from Wexford town centre.
