The Canary Islands have long been a popular hotspot for visiting Brits, thanks largely to its stunning climate throughout the year. It is no surprise that the islands have also developed offerings to attract traveling golfers, with Tenerife boasting some of the finest resorts in all of Spain!

We’ll start with the star of the show, Ritz-Carlton Abama. Thought of as one of Europe’s finest resorts, this five-star destination is a perennial customer favourite, with everything you could ever wish for from a golfing getaway.

In addition to the excellent rooms, there’s a double-Michelin Starred eatery (M.B. Restaurant), and a fantastic spa, as well as easy access to the beach and additional dining options at The Beach Club, Txoko, Le Casa Club, and Le Veranda.

On the golf course, the Dave Thomas design is much-praised, offering ocean views from 17 of the 18 holes on the property. It’s a par-72, championship design, however, a myriad of teeing options and phenomenal conditioning make this eminently playable for all.

The fairways of Abama Golf Course are lined by thousands of trees adding a feel of privacy to the course, and ensuring you keep your ball down the middle if you’re to score well! Buggies are available from the clubhouse which may be advisable for some, as the club has some elevation changes throughout the routing.

Designed by Seve Ballesteros, the on-site Buenavista Golf Course at the Melia Hacienda del Conde resort is the ideal holiday layout. The rugged terrain hugs the islands coastline, providing stunning views throughout the round. At just over 6,500 yards from the back tees, the course is by no means a brute – but plenty of bunkers (and the Atlantic Ocean!), demand your concentrations throughout the round.

The hotel itself boast 117 rooms, and is Adults-Only, meaning this is the perfect retreat for couples or small groups seeking a touch of tranquillity. Whilst the eight treatment rooms at the Spa, and the numerous on-resort pools are fantastic places to kick back, we’d also definitely recommend heading out for a wander into the nearby Teide National Park for stunning panoramic views of the area.

Another five-star option in Tenerife is the exquisite Hotel Las Madrigueras. Located in Play de las Americas and just 30-minutes from the airport, it’s ideally located to enable golfers to make the most of their vacation; both on and off the resort.

You could be forgiven for not stepping foot outside of the confines of the property though, with plenty to keep you entertained throughout your trip. Not least, the fabulous layout at Golf Las Americas, which is overlooked by many of the hotel’s rooms.

Despite the hotel’s proximity to the 1st tee, the layout weaves away into woodland, creating a secluded feeling to the course that allows you to get lost in the round. Like other courses on the island, Golf Las Americas isn’t overly long, but tree-lined holes and plenty of water will keep you on your toes throughout.

Once back at the hotel, we’d strongly recommend checking out the Turkish baths – followed by an evening unwinding in the Piano bar. Relaxed perfection!

A final perk of Vincci Tenerife Golf is its proximity to the airport (5km), meaning there’s the chance to squeeze in an extra round on the day of arrival or departure, without needing to build in time for a long transfer!
