One of the most popular holiday destinations in the world, Tenerife is fast becoming a golfing hotspot. The island has become accustomed to hosting European Tour events over recent years, with the world’s best players loving the chance to play some golf on this sun-kissed Spanish island.

Golfbreaks customers have also begun travelling to Tenerife in increased numbers, as its reputation for fabulous golf, immaculate hotels and year-round sun continues to grow. The island has become the ideal spot for those looking to travel out of the usual ‘holiday seasons’ with a perfect golfing climate in both early spring and late autumn.

Tenerife also offers a huge variety of Spain golf breaks to suit each and every group. Whether you’re looking to visit the late-night spots in Las Americas, or just to relax on-site in five-star luxury, Tenerife has it all. And with scenic, volcanic landscapes and white sandy beaches, there’s as much to take in off the course, as there is on it!

Glorious weather

Tenerife is known as the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’ thanks to its year-round warm temperatures. This peaks in the summer months of June and July, however, you’ll be playing in shorts and polo shirts here in both March and November. This warm climate is ideal for matching your flights to your desired time of travel, with many of the bigger airlines offering incredible deals for those looking to travel away from the madness around the summer school holidays!

Ease of travel

Tenerife’s southerly location in Europe is still just a four-hour flight away, making a round on the day of arrival or departure (or both!), easily feasible. You’ll find flights to the island from across the UK, and with Tenerife’s South Airport located in close proximity to the island’s hotels and resorts, you needn’t worry about a long transfer once you’ve landed in the sunshine.

Top quality golf

The Canary Islands are blessed with some fantastic golf courses, with Tenerife boasting some of the best layouts off the coast of North West Africa. Costa Adeje remains a Golfbreaks customer favourite and has become even more of a household name after hosting two European Tour events in 2021. The 27-hole complex is considered to be amongst the strongest golf facilities on the island and has spectacular views of La Gomera. The Los Lagos course supports the main Championship layout and features plenty of ravines, valleys and doglegs to keep you on your toes throughout.

Towards the north of the island, you’ll find the Buenavista course. Designed by the legendary Seve Ballesteros, this combination of mountain and cliffside topography creates a unique course and an excellent test for golfers of all abilities. Throughout the round you’ll glimpse stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean as you work your way along the Isla Baja coastline.

Another favourite of ours is Abama Golf. The Dave Thomas design stretches out to over 6,800 yards with water lurking throughout! This is another course that benefits from some of Tenerife’s incredible vista points, notably on the signature 10th hole, which is almost 500 metres above sea level!

Luxury resorts

Wherever you choose to stay in Tenerife, you won’t be short of luxury. Making the most of the neighbouring course, The Ritz Carlton Abama is a world-famous five-star luxury resort. Close to the historic town of Playa San Juan, this cliff-top resort overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and houses 459 rooms and suites. The rooms themselves are laid out amongst extensive sub-tropical gardens boasting palm groves, lakes and waterfalls. The on-site M.B. Restaurant provides guests with an exquisite taste of authentic Spanish cuisine, validated by the two Michelin stars awarded to the venue. If you’re looking to let your hair down a little more, check out the Sports Bar, Lobby Bar or CUBANIKA. The Sports Bar in particular is much-visited by our customers, thanks to its showing of live sporting events and the traditional English pub feel.

Another hotel benefiting from its proximity to golf is Las Madrigueras. Guests enjoy VIP access to Las Americas Golf, whilst being just 10 minutes from the main part of town. This luxury spa and resort is effortlessly peaceful and provides wonderful views of both the golf course and the island of Gomera. The hotel here offers exceptional service, luxury bedrooms, a Turkish Spa, as well as a couple of great restaurants, making this an ideal base for a golf holiday experience.

If you’re interested in staying in the north of the island, the Melia Hacienda is another five-star gem. This adult-only resort boasts a spectacular lagoon pool and just over 100 spacious rooms and suites. The Yhi Spa is the resort’s onsite spa centre consisting of 8 treatment rooms, sauna, steam room, and Turkish bath … perfect for unwinding after your round!

Amazing nightlife

For a lively off-course experience, both Las Americas and Los Cristianos offer bundles of bars, with many open late into the evening for those without a tee time the following morning. There’s a variety of bars and restaurants in both areas, but Las Americas is notable for having some phenomenal value on evening drinks – particularly for larger groups heading into town! For those looking for a quieter evening, check out the more traditional and foodie hubs of La Caleta and Adeja, from where you can soak in the stunning Spanish evenings.

Stunning beaches & natural beauty

The island of Tenerife is blessed with several spectacular beaches, many of which have been awarded Blue Flag status for their high standards of safety and cleanliness. Those with plenty of time away from the course would be able to find a new beach each day if desired, with clear blue seas and beachside restaurants wherever you head. If beaches aren’t your thing, why not head into the hills? The most popular areas for exploration are the cliffs of Los Gigantes, the Anaga Mountains and the Masca Valley, with a walking tour allowing you to fully take in the beauty of your surroundings.
