Nestled in the sun-drenched Messinia region of Greece, Costa Navarino is one of Europe’s most breathtaking golf destinations. Voted Europe's Best Golf Resort" in 2024 by Today's Golfer UK magazine, it combines world-class courses with stunning sea views and authentic Greek charm. Offering a luxurious experience both on and off the course from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.

We have experienced Costa Navarino ourselves and seen first-hand the blend of culture, cuisine, and natural beauty. Whether you’re tackling the signature holes designed by legends like Bernhard Langer and José María Olazábal or simply soaking up the Mediterranean sunshine, Costa Navarino delivers the perfect blend of challenge, beauty and relaxation for every golfer.

What is the best time to play golf in Costa Navarino?

Our experts recommend visiting Costa Navarino during the springs months (March to May) to avoid the high summer heats. September to November also offer optimal golf temperatures and the courses are in pristine condition. These shoulder seasons also tend to be quieter, allowing golfers to fully enjoy the serene beauty and world-class facilities of this spectacular destination.

The summer months can be hot, but early morning or late afternoon tee times still provide stunning rounds with views over the Ionian Sea and often allow you to do other off course activities during the day.

How to get to Costa Navarino

Accessible from all major airports in the UK to either Athens airport or Kalamata airport, it is convenient to get to and with excellent road connections and regular flight options, reaching Costa Navarino is smooth and straightforward.

Travel tips

Golf travel tips:

  • Book tee times in advance - Costa Navarino’s courses are very popular, especially in spring and autumn, so securing your tee times early ensures you play when and where you want.
  • Play early or late - During warmer months, early morning and late afternoon rounds offer cooler conditions and beautiful light for photography.
  • Take advantage of multi-round packages - Many resorts offer discounts for multiple rounds across the Dunes, Bay, Hills, and International Olympic Academy courses.
  • Plan early - If you are going to want a buggy make sure that this something you book early to avoid any disappointment of one not being available.

Packing essentials:

  • Golf gear - Bring your own clubs if possible, but note that rental sets are available at all courses. Pack light layers like a polo and shorts for daytime, plus a pullover for cooler evenings.
  • Sun protection - The Greek sun can be strong even outside summer, so include sunscreen, a cap, and sunglasses.
  • Adapters - Greece uses Type C and F plugs, so bring an EU adapter for your UK devices.

Cultural travel tips

  • Embrace local hospitality - Greeks are warm and welcoming. Learn a few simple phrases like efcharistó (thank you) or kaliméra (good morning) to connect with locals.
  • Meal times - Dining is relaxed and often later than in the UK, expect dinner around 8–9pm.
  • Tipping - Not obligatory but appreciated, 5–10% is customary for good service in restaurants or taxis.

Useful travel information

  • Currency - Euro (€). Most places accept cards, but it’s handy to have small cash for taxis or local cafés.
  • Time Zone - Greece is two hours ahead of the UK (GMT+2).
  • Driving - Drive on the right-hand side. Roads to Costa Navarino are well maintained, and car hire is convenient from both Kalamata and Athens airports.
  • Weather - Expect mild winters and hot, dry summers, with ideal golf conditions from March to June and September to November.

Golf at Costa Navarino

Costa Navarino boasts four unforgettable courses, each offering a unique golfing experience. The original course, The Dunes Course, combines links-style holes with inland olive groves. The Bay Course showcases stunning sea views and strategic play whilst The Hills Course gives an elevated parkland setting. Finally the International Olympic Academy Course delivers a championship-level challenge.

  • Dunes Course

Par: 71 | Yaradage: 6,581 yards | Designer: Bernhard Langher

Designed by Bernhard Langer in association with European Golf Design, The Dunes Course was the first signature golf course in Greece and remains the crown jewel of Costa Navarino. Set in a stunning seaside landscape, it offers a mix of links-style holes along the coast and more sheltered parkland holes framed by olive and citrus groves.

The layout makes full use of its natural contours, with wide fairways, deep pot bunkers, and undulating greens. Measuring just over 6,500 yards, it’s a fair but challenging course suitable for all handicaps. The Dunes also features an impressive clubhouse overlooking the sea, offering a perfect post-round spot to relax and take in the views.

  • The Bay Course

Par: 71 | Yaradage: 6,139 yards | Designer: Robert Trent Jones Jnr.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, The Bay Course is a masterpiece of scenic golf, where each hole seems to outdo the last in terms of beauty. Just a short drive from The Dunes, this course winds its way through three distinct landscapes: seaside, canyon, and grove. Golfers are treated to spectacular views of Navarino Bay, particularly on the signature holes that run right along the water.

Although slightly shorter than The Dunes, The Bay is more strategic, favouring accuracy and clever shot placement over raw power. With its elevated tees, undulating greens, and peaceful setting, it’s a course that rewards thoughtful play and promises a memorable round from start to finish.

The Bay Course, Costa Navarino

  • The Hills Course

Par: 72 | Yaradage: 6,251 yards | Designer: Jose Maria Olazábal

Perched high above the coastline, The Hills Course, designed by José María Olazábal, offers a completely different atmosphere, serene, spacious and surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Peloponnese countryside. The fairways are generous, the greens expansive and the design encourages an enjoyable rhythm of play while still providing a solid challenge.

The natural elevation changes create dramatic viewpoints across the valleys and down to the Ionian Sea. It’s a course that blends seamlessly into its environment, offering a more relaxed but equally rewarding round for golfers of all levels.

The Hills is perfect for those who appreciate a peaceful, scenic game with a strong sense of place.

  • International Olympic Academy Course

Par: 72 | Yaradage: 6,354 yards | Designer: Jose Maria Olazábal

The second José María Olazábal design at Costa Navarino, the International Olympic Academy Golf Course is the resort’s most demanding layout and arguably its most dramatic. Measuring over 7,000 yards, it’s built to championship standards, with carefully placed bunkers, elevated greens, and panoramic views of the surrounding hills and sea.

The course offers a thrilling variety of holes that challenge both precision and creativity, from long par 4s that test driving accuracy to par 3s framed by stunning natural vistas. Despite its tournament pedigree, the course remains accessible to all thanks to multiple tee options and excellent conditioning. It’s a must-play for golfers seeking a true test amid unforgettable scenery.
