Innisbrook South Course overview
Location: Palm Harbor, Florida | Style: Parkland | Par: 71 | Designer: Larry Packard | Opened: 1970s
The South Course at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club offers a distinct playing experience compared to its sister layouts. While still a parkland design at heart, it carries a subtle links-style influence, with wide rolling fairways, expansive waste areas, and an abundance of bunkers. This blend of styles makes it both visually appealing and strategically engaging, providing variety within the resort’s four-course lineup.
Though not as demanding as the Copperhead or Island courses, the South has quietly become a favourite among resort guests for its playability and charm. Its routing balances challenge with enjoyment, rewarding well-placed shots while remaining accessible for higher-handicap golfers.
Course highlights
The South Course is characterised by its rolling terrain, plentiful bunkers, and large sandy waste areas that frame many holes. Unlike the more heavily wooded Copperhead, this layout feels more open, evoking the atmosphere of coastal golf. Its relatively forgiving fairways encourage aggressive driving, yet precision is still needed to approach the often-contoured greens.
Signature Holes
The standout moment comes at the par-3 9th hole, a daunting 210-yard test that plays to an island green. Demanding both accuracy and nerve, it is one of Innisbrook’s most dramatic shots. Walking away with par here is an achievement in itself and a memory golfers take home from their South Course round.
Did You Know?
The South Course was intentionally designed by Larry Packard to provide a contrast to the Copperhead Course.
Where Copperhead is tight, tree-lined, and punishing, the South is more open and forgiving, with broad fairways and sandy waste areas that give it a links-style character unusual for Florida golf.
This makes it a popular choice for players seeking a more relaxed round while still enjoying Packard’s strategic design flair.
