The Addington Golf Club overview
Par: 69 | Architect: John Federick Abercromby | Type: Heathland
The Addington Golf Club, located in Croydon, Surrey, offers a unique escape into nature just nine miles from central London. Established in 1913, the course was the vision of celebrated architect John Frederick Abercromby, with contributions from the legendary Harry Colt. Measuring 6,300 yards with a par of 69, it’s a layout that rewards precision over distance, winding through dramatic woodland terrain and featuring a variety of memorable holes.
The golf course
In 2021, a significant restoration led by acclaimed architects Clayton, DeVries & Pont helped revive many of Abercromby’s original design features. This sensitive work has enhanced the historic charm and strategic character of The Addington, positioning it to reclaim its place among England’s elite golfing venues.
The club boasts a full range of practice facilities, including a driving range, two short-game greens (one flat and one undulating), and putting greens near the clubhouse. The welcoming clubhouse includes a bar, dining area, changing rooms, and locker facilities.
Signature Hole
One of The Addington’s standout holes is the 13th, a thrilling par 3 played over a deep ravine to a green framed by towering trees. It’s a true test of nerve and accuracy, and a perfect example of Abercromby’s flair for natural drama and bold design.
