Set against the stunning backdrop of the McDowell Mountains and the Sonoran Desert, Kierland Golf Club at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa is one of Scottsdale’s most dynamic and visually striking golf destinations.
Designed by renowned architect Scott Miller, this 27-hole championship venue features three distinctive nine-hole loops - Ironwood, Acacia, and Mesquite - each offering its own character, challenges, and views across Arizona’s desert landscape.
Ranked among Scottsdale’s premier resort courses, Kierland Golf Club combines desert beauty with a player-friendly design that balances risk and reward. The immaculate conditioning, creative layout, and commitment to first-class service make it a must-play for golfers visiting Arizona.
Golf Course overview
Kierland Golf Club’s 27 holes flow seamlessly through rolling fairways, desert washes, and sculpted mounds that frame panoramic views of Camelback Mountain and Pinnacle Peak. Each of the three nines - Ironwood, Acacia, and Mesquite - offers a unique blend of features, allowing golfers to experience multiple course combinations.
-
Ironwood Course: Characterised by wide fairways, dramatic bunkering, and risk-reward par 5s. The natural desert arroyos provide both strategic intrigue and visual drama, demanding thoughtful club selection.
-
Acacia Course: The most challenging of the three, Acacia tests accuracy with tighter landing zones and elevated greens. Water hazards and deep bunkers come into play, rewarding confident shot-making.
-
Mesquite Course: The most forgiving nine, ideal for resort guests and casual players. Its open layout, generous fairways, and scenic mountain backdrops create an enjoyable round without sacrificing challenge.
Together, these loops form a par-72 layout stretching just over 7,000 yards from the championship tees. With multiple tee options, the course accommodates all skill levels - from low-handicap players seeking a stern test to visitors simply enjoying golf under the Arizona sun.
Signature Holes
Each nine at Kierland Golf Club offers standout moments, but a few holes have become true favourites among returning guests:
-
Acacia #9 (Par 4): A breathtaking finishing hole that plays slightly downhill toward the clubhouse, framed by palm trees and water to the right. Precision off the tee is rewarded with a clear approach, but a misplaced drive can quickly find the hazard.
-
Ironwood #7 (Par 5): A true risk-reward challenge. Big hitters can attempt to reach the green in two, but a desert wash guards the front, demanding nerve and precise execution.
-
Mesquite #4 (Par 3): Set against the McDowell Mountains, this scenic short hole plays over a desert arroyo to a narrow green protected by bunkers - as beautiful as it is testing.
Each hole embodies Miller’s vision: a course that harmonises with its surroundings while demanding creativity and strategy from every golfer.
