The Aigle Course, Le Golf National overview

Par: 71 | Yardage: 6,224 yards | Designer: Hubert Chesneau & Robert Von Hagge | Opened: 1991

The Aigle Golf Course at Le Golf National is often forgotten due to the popularity of its brother, The Albatros, which is the home of the French Open and the 2018 Ryder Cup venue. However, The Aigle is a wonderful golf course, kept to the same standards as The Albatros, and also offers a challenging test of golf. These 2 courses are the perfect way to enjoy a great Parisian golfing weekend. The complex is also part of the prestigious European Tour Destination network, a world-class selection of golf venues.

Designed with all golfers in mind, this course will test all who play and is a fantastic second course to the main Albatros Course. The wide fairways allow you to make use of your driver, especially as there aren't too many bunkers about. Like its counterpart, it has a links feel to it and the hillocks and tufts of high grass can cause a few problems. Overall it is an enjoyable round that should allow you to play to handicap.

Course overview

The Aigle is characterised by tree-lined fairways, gentle elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers that reward accuracy without overly punishing the occasional miss. Tee shots are generally inviting, with generous landing areas encouraging confident swings, while thoughtful positioning is still required to approach the greens from the best angles.

Water features come into play on select holes, adding visual appeal and a tactical element, but the course places greater emphasis on consistency and course management rather than sheer power. Approaches demand solid distance control, with subtly contoured greens that run true and reward positive putting.

The overall routing flows naturally through the property, creating an enjoyable rhythm to the round and offering a relaxed yet engaging challenge.

Signature hole

The par-4 10th is a standout hole, with water guarding the approach and framing the green beautifully. Accuracy from the tee sets up the ideal angle into the putting surface, and club selection is crucial to avoid bringing the hazard into play. It’s a memorable hole that encapsulates the course’s strategic but fair character.

Post round

Golfers finishing on the Aigle Course can head straight to the clubhouse terrace, where views across the property provide the perfect backdrop for a well-earned drink. Its relaxed atmosphere makes it particularly well suited to group trips looking to combine quality golf with a sociable setting.

Our view

The Aigle Course is an excellent addition to any Le Golf National itinerary. It offers a more forgiving and enjoyable test than the Albatros while still delivering strategic interest and strong conditioning. For groups, mixed handicaps or those wanting a second round during their stay, the Aigle is a highly worthwhile experience.
