La Reserve is the Indian Ocean's first contemporary links-style course - a bold experiment for seaside golf in Mauritius. Perched on the hillside terrain and descending dramatically to the coast, the layout offers sweeping panoramic ocean views from nearly every tee and green. Expect rugged seaside character, natural grasses, pot bunkers, and dunes that evoke a classic links course.

Designed in collaboration between Louis Oosthuizen and Peter Matkovich, the course reflects a philosophy of ecological sensitivity: native grasses were planted on former sugarcane land, and layout construction sought to preserve natural terrain while delivering an authentic links experience.

Expect a bucket list experience, with this widely considered the best golf course in Mauritius.

Signature Holes

The par-4 8th hole is a defining test. It features a split fairway and a large waste area with mounding that guards the green. The hole offers players a strategic choice: play conservatively to use the safer line of go for a more aggressive route that might reward well-positioned approaches.

• This hole captures the essence of the links-style challenge - requiring strategy, shot-making, and adaptability, especially given the undulating terrain and natural wind exposure typical of seaside links golf.
• With panoramic views over tropical bays, ocean, and the surrounding protected landscapes, the 8th (and several neighbouring holes) deliver one of the most dramatic visual and golfing experiences on the island.

Post Round

The La Réserve clubhouse, designed by architect Florent Richard, blends elegantly with the landscape - with natural materials, volcanic-stone facades and plantings that harmonise with the surroundings. It features a rooftop terrace offering panoramic views of the links course and the Indian Ocean - a perfect spot for drinks as the sun sets.

The 2023 edition of the Mauritius Open was particularly historic: the winner was none other than the course co-designer and former major champion Louis Oosthuizen, on the very first professional tournament held on La Réserve Golf Links.
