Woodenbridge Golf Club overiew

Located just over an hour’s drive south of Dublin in the beautiful Vale of Avoca, Woodenbridge Golf Club offers a tranquil and scenic golfing experience surrounded by nature. Founded in 1884, this venerable club remained a 9-hole course for over a century before expanding to a full 18 holes in 1994.

The course is set in a stunning valley, with mature woodlands rising steeply on all sides and two rivers - the Avoca and the Aughrim - weaving through the layout, creating both natural beauty and challenging obstacles.

Renowned for its superb course conditioning and lightning-fast, undulating greens, Woodenbridge has earned praise from golfing legends such as Joe Carr, who called it "Ireland’s Augusta" and "the most scenic golf course in Ireland, a hidden gem." Its blend of natural charm, historical significance, and technical challenge makes it a favourite among both local members and visiting golfers alike.

Course Overview

Woodenbridge is a top-quality parkland course measuring 6,393 yards with a par of 71. The layout emphasises accuracy over length, requiring thoughtful shot placement amid the parkland setting. Fir, beech, and pine trees frame the valley and line many fairways, while the fast-flowing Avoca and Aughrim rivers come into play on over half of the holes.

The course’s combination of woodland, water hazards, and strategically placed trees creates a testing but rewarding challenge for golfers of all levels.

Signature Holes

Two standout holes close the round in spectacular fashion. The 17th hole is a tricky 167-yard par three that demands precision on the tee. The 18th hole is a demanding 551-yard par five with water running along the entire left side, ready to punish any pulled shots.

These holes perfectly capture the strategic complexity and natural beauty that Woodenbridge offers.

Post Round

The clubhouse at Woodenbridge provides a welcoming space to relax after your round, featuring a lively bar and a restaurant on the upper level with panoramic views of the course and valley. The club also includes a pro shop and all the necessary facilities to round off your golfing experience in comfort.
