The Villas at Kiawah Island Golf Resort overview

Located an hour south of Charleston you will find Kiawah Island nestled on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The Kiawah Villas range in size from one to four-bedrooms and provide guests with lots of space and great views of the surrounding area.

With five championship courses, including the legendary Ocean Course, golfers will enjoy all the choices available. With first-class dining options available and a medley of activities offered, Kiawah Island has everything. This idyllic setting coupled with unrivalled customer service makes Kiawah Island one of the best US golf trip destinations.

Golf Courses

Kiawah Island is simply a golfer’s paradise, with five courses to experience during your stay, it is the perfect destination for your next golf vacation with designers such as Dye, Fazio, Nicklaus and Player all putting their stamp on the resort.

The Pete Dye-designed Ocean Course, host to the 1991 Ryder Cup and Rory McIlroy’s empathic PGA Championship win in 2012 is an absolute must-play. Add Osprey, Turtle, Cougar and Oak Point to the choice on hand and you have a selection of golf that will rival any resort in the world.

The Villas at Kiawah Island have one to four-bedroom units available to guests. These stylish and well-designed villas come with fully equipped kitchens and TV’s in each of the bedrooms. Bedding options vary depending on your choice of unit, but with such a vast array of villas available, there is always a fit with each group. Many of the villas feature ocean and garden views, allowing guests to indulge in the beautiful low country landscape.

Restaurant & Bars

With 11 restaurants located across the resort, there is something to please every guest and every taste. The hotel’s Ocean Room Restaurant offers delicious steaks you must try – the only steakhouse in the US to earn a Forbes 4-star and an AAA 4 diamond rating. Alternatively, The Sushi Lounge is also located at The Sanctuary, with a bar onsite for after diner excotic drinks.

For dining across the rest of the resort and Kiawah Island, Mingo Point Oyster Roast and BBQ serves delicious food in a very relaxed atmosphere which includes dancing and live music. Or perhaps you would prefer some poolside dining at The Night Heron Grill. Following a round of golf on one of the five brilliant courses, Kiawah offers a fantastic selection of clubhouse restaurants. The Atlantic Room, Ryder Cup Bar, Tomasso at Turtle Point and Cherrywood BBQ are all perfect for a well-earned meal following a round at Kiawah.

Spa & Leisure

Guests staying at the Villas at Kiawah Island can utilize The Spa at The Sanctuary with advanced reservations. Annually rated as one of the best in the country, guests can treat themselves to a day of relaxation and rejuvenation. Villa guests also have access to the Night Heron Pool and West Beach Pool complexes on the island.

The entrance to Kiawah Island is approximately a 40-minute drive from downtown Charleston, South Carolina. However, it is worth noting that Kiawah Island really does spread out, and from the entry gate to the Ocean Course at the far end of the property is a further 20 minutes’ drive.

Outside of golf, guests have several different activities they can do whilst staying at the Villas at Kiawah Island. Those seeking full relaxation can spend a day at The Spa at The Sanctuary with advanced reservations or take a dip in one of two pool complexes on the island (the Night Heron Pool and West Beach Pool). The beach of course is also widely accessible. Guests can also book reservations for the tennis courts as well as several recreation & nature programs such as kayaking excursions, fishing charters, and nature walks. With complimentary island transportation for all villa guests, it is easy to get around the resort to enjoy everything available.

Golf courses at The Villas at Kiawah Island Golf Resort

Ocean Course

Breaks from £869

Named “America’s Toughest Course”, this layout stretches to 7873 yards from the back tees and casts spectacular views across 2 ½ miles of Atlantic coastline. Golfing on The Ocean Course is an experience like no other, from Pro V1 practice balls on the range through to the superbly manicured tee boxes, fairways and greens. In addition, all golfing four balls receive their own personal forecaddie to assist with tee shots, green reading and no doubt the occasional ball searching!

Turtle Point Course

Breaks from £869

Opened in 1981 and totally renovated in 2016, Turtle Point’s design takes advantage of the island’s natural contours and dune ridges. Flowing through forests of hardwoods and palmetto along backwater lagoons, the subtle greens of Turtle Point demand a keen eye and a deft touch. Even though this course is one of the lesser-known courses on Kiawah Island it still plays 7061 yards of great golf and certainly puts Kiawah Island on the golfing map.

Osprey Point Course

Breaks from £869

Another ‘Top 75 Resort Course’ from Golf Digest, Osprey Point is a favourite of visitors to the island and plays 6932 yards of impressive golf. Set against a backdrop of pristine natural lagoons, saltwater marshes and maritime forests, the Tom Fazio design is a masterpiece of playability and variety. This spectacular course is another reason why Kiawah Island has been voted one of the best places to play in the US.

Oak Point Course

Breaks from £869

Oak Point Golf Course was originally part of the Kiawah River Estates before being bought by Kiawah Island Resort in 2001. This par-72 resort-style course measures just over 6700 yards from the tournament tees and offers 5 tee boxes. Despite plenty of water, it is considered the easiest of the Kiawah courses and is praised for its playability and stellar course conditions. Meandering through the salty marshes and natural landscape, Oak Point is a great round of golf.

Cougar Point Course

Breaks from £869

Proclaimed by many guests as their favourite course on the Island, Cougar Point is the resort’s Gary Player design and plays 6875 yards. The course features dovetail short and long par-4s, with some excellent risk vs reward par- 5s and some incredibly challenging par-3s. One of the more strategic courses on the island, Cougar Point requires a great deal of thought and will require accuracy rather than length. A 'must play' for a Kiawah Island golf holiday.
