Your own war on the shore starts here!
Make sure to head to the incredible Kiawah Island on your break to Charleston and take in a round at the enigmatic Ocean Course, known best as the setting for 1991’s ‘War on the Shore’ between the USA and European Ryder Cup Teams.
It all came down to the final green, with the American’s claiming a historic 14½ to 13½ victory over Bernard Gallacher’s team. Take on this testing course for yourself for a first-hand look at why it’s still remembered as one of the most famous Ryder Cup settings.
Away from the Ocean Course, Kiawah Island is also home to courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Fazio, adding enviable variety to any break at the resort.
Other Charleston golf courses include the Rees-Jones design Charleston National Golf Club, ideally located for groups staying in the downtown area, just a 25-minute drive away. The Links Course at Wild Dunes is equally just a short drive from Charleston and takes you out to the USA’s Eastern coast along the Atlantic Ocean.
