Royal St George's Golf Club Details

Royal St George's Golf Club introduction

The par 70 golf course measures 6,340 yards from the weekday tees. Host of the 2020 Open Championship, Royal St George’s is home to more majors than any other course in England, and it's easy to see why. The golf course is superbly designed with undulating fairways and fast greens. However, the coastal views that golfers are faced with are truly spectacular. This excellent golf course is a tough challenge for even the most experienced of golfer.

Royal St George's Golf Club information

    18 holes, 70 par, 6340 yards. Links.

The golf course blends naturally into its beautiful surroundings and its challenging layout is not a traditional one as each nine is broadly circular, a loose figure of eight.Golfers playing on Royal St George’s require confidence and an accurate, solid ball strike so not to get stuck in any sticky situations. The golf course has plenty of hazards, one of which is on the 4th and is the UK’s tallest and deepest bunker. Some hazards are also invisible from the tees, which tend to cause a few problems. This is an incredibly popular golf course and it is easy to see why. The brilliant challenge that golfers are faced with makes for a truly memorable round of golf.

The Royal St George’s golf club features a great range of practice facilities, including an open air driving range, pitching area, practice nets and putting greens with bunkers. There is a well stocked pro shop that will provide you with all your golfing needs. At the end of your round you can rest assured that you can have a relaxing drink and a catch up about the days events in the charming clubhouse. Retaining all of its original charm, it feels as though you are stepping back in time. The unique atmosphere at this prestigious venue is the perfect place in which to enjoy a delicious lunch either infront of the cosy fire in the winter or outside on the pretty sheltered patio in the summer.

The staff in the pro shop were very welcoming and helpful.
The course was magnificent in every respect and provided an experience my friends and I shall treasure for many years.
Course signage around the greens would be a welcome addition and would help reduce round time, which we found highly frustrating.
Sadly, the presence of a course ranger/marshal, did hinder this experience somewhat, by providing unwelcome advice on which club and shot to take, whilst also making us feel under pressure by his presence, which had a detrimental effect on our performance during this period.
The staff in the visitors bar area also let themselves down by providing a poor standard of service, whilst one of them actually switched the lights off in the bar, making us feel most unwelcome and uncomfortable.
An amazing golfing experience, which could easily have generated a maximum score, however, but full marks to the shop and greens staff.

All the staff were excellent with the exception of a steward in the clubhouse, who shouted at me for taking a picture in the clubhouse, where a quiet friendly word would have been much more appropriate

    Not usually a moaner
Felt like they didn't really want us there. Caddy master drove past on one fairway and didn't even nod at us let alone ask if we were having a nice day. The cafe for non members is like a railway station. Great course but not a great day out.
