The Palmer, PGA National Resort overview

Par: 72 | Yardage: 7,037 | Designer: Arnold Palmer | Founded: 1980

The Palmer Course offers a slightly more forgiving alternative to The Champion at the PGA Resort. While still retaining plenty of strategic interest, the layout reflects Arnold Palmer's philosophy of rewarding smart decision-making and confident ball striking.

The course features generous fairways compared to its championship neighbor, but water hazards, doglegs and well-placed bunkers still demand accuracy. It is an enjoyable yet challenging test that suits a wide range of handicaps.

Greens are smooth and true, encouraging aggressive putting, while the overall layout flows naturally through PGA National’s scenic parkland setting.

Golf course overview

Arnold Palmer’s redesign focused on improving playability without sacrificing challenge, creating a layout that is both accessible and strategically engaging. Tee shots are generally inviting, with generous landing areas, but thoughtful positioning is essential to open up the best angles into the greens and avoid bringing hazards into play.

Water hazards are a recurring feature, particularly on approach shots, where well-placed lakes protect greens and place a premium on accuracy and distance control. Bunkering becomes more influential closer to the putting surfaces, subtly narrowing landing areas and framing approaches. The result is a course that rewards intelligent course management, offering a fair but satisfying test that remains highly enjoyable for golfers of all abilities.

Signature hole

The par-5 18th hole stands out as a strong finishing hole. At just under 600 yards it is not accessible in two for most, however the longer hitters will have to make a decision as to whether to try and set up an eagle chance. The risk in the hole is the water that guards the green.

Post Round

Golfers finishing on The Palmer Course can enjoy easy access to the resort’s dining venues and bars, making it an ideal choice for those looking to combine quality golf with a relaxed, sociable atmosphere.

Our view

The Palmer Course strikes an excellent balance between challenge and playability. It’s an ideal option for golfers who want a high-quality round with strategic interest, without the relentless intensity of the Champion Course.
