Buzzing with infectious energy throughout its winding streets and magnificent architecture, the stunning city of Barcelona is an ever-popular holiday destination on Spain’s east coast. The golf isn’t too bad either; a host of Europe’s finest courses are within easy reach.
We are often asked by our customers, what are the best golf courses in Barcelona? Check out some of our thoughts on the very best golf in Barcelona and nearby areas…
45 holes of delightful Catalonian golf await at Real Club de Golf El Prat, split up into 4 thrilling circuits. The Open Course is the pick of the bunch and, having hosted the Spanish Open numerous times, is ranked 2nd in Northern Spain and even makes Europe’s top 100. The Blue Course also does not fall short of expectations. Heavily bunkered greens make precision paramount to scoring well.
The jewel of Spain’s lavish golfing crown, the Stadium Course at PGA Camiral Golf & Wellness is something special. Although approximately a 1-hour drive away from the city centre, we couldn’t possibly leave it out. Ranked 3rd in Europe, the Stadium Course consists of long, tight fairways encroached by beautiful oak trees, evergreens and heather, twisting and winding their way towards small, undulating greens. A true masterpiece.
Sculpted into hilly terrain on the border of the Penedes wine-growing region, Club de Golf Barcelona is yet another top-class layout. Despite adding to the challenge, vigorous elevation changes guarantee spectacular views of the Montserrat Mountains. A buggy is highly recommended, especially in the searing Spanish sun!
Something of a hidden gem tucked away in the Montseny Natural Park, Golf Montanyà is a charming parkland layout designed by Dave Thomas, the mastermind behind the Brabazon at The Belfry. The L’Estanyol brook cuts through the heart of the course, making water a prevalent hazard on many of the 18 holes. Measuring just over 6,000 yards, solid course management takes priority over length.
The charming clubhouse, an 18th century stone farmhouse, is an accurate reflection of the personality of Club de golf Vallromanes. The tranquil, landscaped course stretches across hilly terrain, featuring large bunkers, sloping, pristine fairways and multi-tiered greens. A dramatic course that will always guarantee an enjoyable round.
The 4th oldest course in Catalonia, Llavaneras Golf Club was founded in 1945 and is located less than 40 minutes along the coast from Barcelona. A relatively short course measuring at 5,500 yards, breathtaking views are on offer throughout. The 17th is a particular highlight, a tricky par 4 with panoramic views of the Mediterranean. 3 seemingly huge bunkers guard the front of the green, causing many golfers frustration over the years.
A truly unique setup dating back to 1922, Club de Golf Terramar lies on the edge of the coastal town of Sitges. A railway line slices through the heart of the course, isolating holes 5-17 on the north side, with the remaining holes sandwiched between the track and the coast. Each and every hole here offers something different, not least the doglegged par four 8th.
Last but not least, the Tour Course at PGA Camiral Golf & Wellness is a must-play course, offering golfers of all levels a fantastic challenge. While many consider it second fiddle to the renowned Stadium Course, this one is maintained to the exceptional same standards. Watch out for plenty of obstacles including those tricky bunkers and rolling fairways.
