Royal West Norfolk overview
Founded in 1892, Royal West Norfolk is an extraordinary links course shaped by the tides of the North Sea. Its isolation and natural landscapes makes it one of the most unique courses in the UK and it why it consistently places inside the UK's top 20 golf courses according to Top 100 courses.
The club exudes tradition and character, from the elegant red-brick clubhouse to the sweeping panoramic coastal views it offers a timeless atmosphere reminiscent of golf's earliest days.
One extra feature that makes Royal West Norfolk even more unique is that access to the club is completely dependent on the tides. When the water rises, the access roads are submerged, leaving the course entirely cut off from the world.
Course overview
This par-71 layout stretches along the Brancaster coast, using the natural terrain to full effect. Narrow fairways twist through dunes, bordered by marshes and the ever-changing shoreline. Conditions vary with the weather and tide, demanding accuracy, creativity, and patience.
In keeping with the courses traditional feel the club only allow two ball or foursome play to keep pace of place up. This is to make sure people are able to get through a round
At high tide, the course is isolated from land completely and this changes the course dramatically. When the water recedes the landscape transforms, revealing firm fairways framed by dunes and salt marshes.
Signature hole
Although difficult to pick just one, the 8th hole certainly stands out. A daunting 503 yard par-4 off the back tees, it runs parallel to shoreline.
During high tide the approach to playing the hole can change completely with water to carry onto the green.

Post round
After a round, golfers retreat to the clubhouse for warmth and reflection. The wood-panelled rooms, open fires, and sea views create a relaxed, nostalgic setting. Players can also browse the fully stocked pro shop and pick up a memento from your visit to Royal West Norfolk.
