Quinta da Marinha Golf Course overview
Par: 71 | Yardage: 6,419 | Designer: Robert Trent Jones Sr. | Opened: 1984
Quinta da Marinha Golf Course is one of the standout layouts on Portugal’s Lisbon Coast, set within the prestigious Quinta da Marinha estate in Cascais. Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr., the course combines strategic design with breathtaking Atlantic views, delivering a memorable round in a spectacular natural setting.
Winding through umbrella pines and rolling terrain, the layout demands thoughtful course management rather than sheer power. Sea breezes add an extra dimension to play, while carefully positioned hazards and elevated greens ensure the course provides a rewarding test for golfers of all standards.
Course Overview
Robert Trent Jones Sr.’s design philosophy is evident throughout, with each hole presenting clear strategic options from the tee. Accuracy is favoured over aggression, as the best angles into the greens are often reserved for those who position their tee shots with care.
Water hazards feature prominently on several holes, particularly influencing approach play, while well-placed bunkering frames landing areas and protects the greens. The putting surfaces are subtly contoured and well-guarded, placing a premium on precision iron shots and confident putting.
The back nine in particular showcases the course’s coastal character, with elevated holes offering panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra mountains, enhancing both the challenge and the overall experience.
Signature Holes
The 3rd Hole at Quinta da Marinha is definitely its signature hole. A par-4 with the most incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean, the hole is so picturesque it was used for a number of years to promote ‘Golf in Portugal’. A real treat to experience for golfers of all abilities.
Post round
After the round, golfers can relax at the elegant clubhouse overlooking the course. Offering a welcoming atmosphere and excellent dining options, it provides the perfect setting to reflect on the round while enjoying views across the fairways and towards the ocean.

Location

"Very nice and relatively flat resort course on site at the Quinta da Marinha hotel. Course meanders through the hotel grounds and you can wave to people sunbathing by the pool as you reach the 10th green!"
