Overview of Chateau des Vigiers

Chateau des Vigiers is an exceptional 4-star luxury hotel, spa and golf resort set in the rolling countryside of South-West France. Surrounded by vineyards and dating back to the 16th century, this elegant estate combines historic charm with modern comfort, offering outstanding dining, first-class facilities and superb accommodation.

Guests can choose to stay in the magnificent Chateau itself or the contemporary Relais des Vigiers, both providing a memorable base for a golf break in France.

Golf Courses

Golf des Vigiers is one of the finest golf facilities in South-West France, offering a superb 27-hole layout set among vineyards, woodland and lakes. Designed by the highly respected architect Donald Steel, the course blends seamlessly into the natural landscape of the Dordogne and provides variety, playability and challenge in equal measure.

The course is split into three contrasting loops of nine holes, allowing for a different combination of play each day and making it ideal for longer golf breaks.

La Vallée

As the name suggests, La Vallée winds gently through the natural contours of the land. This is the most forgiving of the three loops, with wider fairways and fewer water hazards, making it particularly enjoyable for higher handicappers and those looking for a relaxed round. Accuracy is still rewarded, especially on approach shots into subtly contoured greens.

Les Vignes

Set among the surrounding vineyards, Les Vignes offers a more strategic test of golf. Tree-lined fairways place an emphasis on positioning from the tee, while well-protected greens demand precise iron play. This loop is often considered the most scenic, with stunning views across the estate and countryside.

Le Lac

The most challenging of the three, Le Lac is defined by its water hazards, which come into play on several holes. This loop requires careful course management and confident shot-making, particularly when attacking the fast, undulating greens. It provides a true test for lower handicappers while remaining fair and enjoyable for all players.

Accommodation

Set in the heart of the Dordogne, Chateau des Vigiers offers two contrasting yet complementary accommodation options.

The Chateau

Known locally as “Little Versailles”, the Chateau was originally built in 1597 by Jean Vigier, a royal judge, and fully restored in 1992. It features 25 individually styled rooms, decorated in a traditional French country-house style:

  • 6 Prestige Rooms
  • 12 Deluxe Rooms
  • 6 Classic Rooms
  • The Dépendances Suites, with their exposed beams and local stone, are particularly popular for their character and authenticity.

Relais des Vigiers

Built in 2008 to eco-friendly standards, the Relais des Vigiers offers a more modern stay while retaining a classic French feel. It features 40 spacious Superior Rooms, each with a private balcony or terrace overlooking the golf course and Chateau. All rooms include:

  • En-suite bathroom with Italian shower
  • TV
  • Minibar
  • Wi-Fi

Restaurant & Bars

  • Les Fresques – Located within the Chateau, this Michelin-starred restaurant showcases refined regional cuisine using fresh, local ingredients, paired with an extensive wine list.
  • Le Chai Brasserie – Housed in the former wine-making building near the Relais, offering relaxed regional dishes and lighter lunches, either indoors by the fire or outside on the terrace.
  • Le 19 Bar – Open daily from April to October until 7pm, ideal for a post-round drink overlooking the course.

The estate also produces its own award-winning wines from its 17-hectare vineyard, adding another layer to the authentic French experience.

Spa & Leisure

Guests can unwind at the Spa by Sothys, located beneath the brasserie. Facilities include:

  • Hydrotherapy pool
  • Sauna
  • Jacuzzi

A range of professional treatments and facials are available, with access to the spa facilities offered at €15 per person for two hours.

Chateau des Vigiers is located in Monestier, Dordogne, approximately:
