The Rila Monastery is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria and is well worth a visit to if you get a bit of free time. Founded in the 10th century, the Rila Monastery is regarded as one of Bulgaria's most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments, it is located 1000 metres above sea level and is truly striking to visit.

Tsarevets is an interesting medieval stronghold built around the 12th Century and served as the 2nd Bulgarian Empires strongest fort. It is well worth a visit if you’re interested about learning more on Bulgaria’s ancient past.
