Copperhead Course overview

The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook is the most recognizable of the 4 courses as it plays host each year to the US PGA Valspar Championship Tournament. A favourite not only amongst the world’s best but all who visit Tampa, the Copperhead winds its way through the natural forest and surrounding lakes encompassing all that nature has to offer. The wildlife is abundant, during 18 holes you are likely to see bald eagles, blue herons, fox squirrels and don’t be surprised to see the occasional alligator.

The golf course is a lengthy test from the championship tees but there are several forward teeing grounds that will make it a pleasure for all handicap levels. The rolling terrain, changes in elevation and fantastic scenery are more reminiscent of the Carolina sandhills and Georgia foothills than the typical Florida landscape.

Signature Holes

The signature hole at the Copperhead Course is the double dogleg par-5 14th hole. One of designer Larry Packard’s favorite hole designs, the initial dogleg turns left but it heavily guarded by trees on that corner, forcing either a safe shot to the right or a carry over the trees. After that, the hole turns right to a heavily guarded green and water to the right. Players tend to focus on positioning rather than length on this hole.

Otherwise, holes 16 – 18 are known as the “Snake Pit” and are widely regarded as three of the toughest finishing holes on the PGA TOUR.
