The dizzy heights Swiss golf

Swiss golf has been a relatively recent phenomenon, thanks in part to the continual popularity of the Omega European Masters, held annually at Crans Sur Sierre. This mountainside course doubles up as a ski resort for several months of the year with the layout designed to offer incredible views of the beautiful Swiss Alps, most notably from the seventh tee box.

The altitude here can see the ball travelling up to 15% further, with those able to keep their tee shots straight able to make some great scores. This course is truly one of a kind and a perfect golf destination for those looking for something new from their break.

Elsewhere in Switzerland, the Golf Club Leuk is the country’s first links-style layout and was designed by Scottish architect John Chilver-Stainer. The course is located in the Rhone River Valley and offers stunning views of its natural mountainous surroundings. The course is just 30 minutes from Cran Sur Sierre, providing a wonderful option for those looking to play multiple courses on their break.

Also located just 30 minutes from Cran Sur Sierre, is the Golf Club de Sion. This course is surrounded by the hills of Valere and Tourbillon, ensuring one of the most picturesque rounds of golf in Europe. Whilst the golf here isn’t as challenging as others in the region, it will be sure to keep you on your toes with water hazards and long winding fairways throughout.

For those looking to dine in style after the round, Golf Club de Sion is home to the ‘Bistro Golf’ restaurant, a fine-dining restaurant set in this spectacular part of Switzerland.
