Shepherd’s Rock Golf Course overview

Par: 72 | Yards: 7,151 | Designer: Pete Dye | Opened: 2017

Shepherd’s Rock is the second Pete Dye design at Nemacolin Golf Resort and offers a spectacular complement to the renowned Mystic Rock. Opened in 2017, this modern championship layout showcases breathtaking mountain vistas, dramatic elevation changes and Dye’s signature strategic flair, quickly establishing itself as one of Pennsylvania’s most exciting resort courses, it rose to 21st in the state in Golf Digests 2025 rankings and it wouldn't surprise anyone if it continues climb as it matures.

Carved across expansive highland terrain, Shepherd’s Rock sits atop the Allegheny Mountains and provides panoramic views from elevated tees throughout the round. While it shares Dye’s bold visual style and strategic bunkering, it offers a slightly more playable experience than Mystic Rock, with generous landing areas balanced by well-positioned hazards that reward thoughtful course management.

Greens are large, undulating and impeccably maintained, demanding confident approach play and a sharp touch with the putter. The combination of elevation shifts, risk-and-reward opportunities and dramatic scenery makes Shepherd’s Rock both visually stunning and strategically engaging.

Signature hole

The par-5 9th is a standout, offering a thrilling downhill tee shot with sweeping mountain views and a genuine risk-and-reward second shot opportunity. The closing stretch also impresses, with elevated approaches and strategically protected greens ensuring the round finishes on a memorable note.
