The Treetops Inn overview

Location: Gaylord | Accommodation: Hotel-style rooms & suites | Golf: Five on-site courses

Set amid the forested hills of Northern Michigan, The Treetops Inn offers a relaxed and convenient home base at one of the Midwest’s most celebrated golf resorts. Surrounded by evergreens, rolling slopes, and scenic vistas that shift beautifully with the seasons, the Inn provides comfortable hotel-style accommodation within walking distance of the resort’s main amenities.

With a cozy lobby anchored by a stone fireplace and welcoming communal spaces, it suits families, small groups, and golf buddies alike. Guests are perfectly positioned to enjoy the dining venues, spa, pools, and the five acclaimed golf courses that have earned Treetops multiple Golf Digest “Places to Play” honors.

Golf Courses

Treetops is home to five distinct layouts, each delivering a unique Northern Michigan golf experience.

  • Jones Masterpiece – Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., this signature championship course showcases sweeping fairways, bold bunkering, and panoramic views across the Pigeon River valley. Elevation changes and strategic shot values make it both scenic and demanding.
  • Fazio Premier – The resort’s only Tom Fazio design blends elegance with subtle challenge. Routed through mature woodland terrain, it features refined shaping, thoughtful green complexes, and a polished championship feel.
  • Smith Signature – Crafted by Rick Smith, this layout offers generous corridors and undulating greens, providing a balanced and enjoyable test for golfers of all abilities.
  • Smith Tradition – A walkable routing that leans naturally into the land’s rolling ridges, Tradition rewards smart strategy and consistent ball striking.
  • Threetops par-3 – Despite its shorter yardage, Threetops is one of America’s most celebrated par-3 courses. Dramatic elevation changes, rocky outcrops, and breathtaking views create unforgettable tee shots. It famously hosted the ESPN par-3 Shootout, where Lee Trevino made his million-dollar ace in 2001.
