The East Course at Dalmahoy is the headline act of the resort: a big, championship-calibre parkland test that combines width from the tee with the kind of scale and subtlety that can still expose every weakness in a golfer’s game. Known on site as “The Beast”, it has hosted the Solheim Cup, the Scottish PGA Championship, and the Scottish Seniors Open, securing its status as one of the stronger resort courses within easy reach of Edinburgh.

Originally designed by James Braid and later renovated in 2005, the East Course now stretches to 7,400 yards from the championship tees, though it is more commonly set at a still-substantial 6,684 yards for everyday resort and competition play. It is a course that feels playable on first glance, yet steadily reveals its championship qualities over the round.

Signature Holes

While there is no single signature hole, the 13th and 14th new addition holes have received significant praise following a renovation in 2005, with tight fairways and hazards at every turn.

The East Course benefits from the same full-service resort set-up as the West, which is one of Dalmahoy’s biggest advantages for travelling golfers. Practice facilities include:

Did You Know?

The Solheim Cup was held at Dalmhoy Country Club in 1992, where the Europe team comfortably took home the trophy. Nationally, the East course has also hosted the Scottish Seniors Open and Scottish PGA Championships.
