Dundonald Links Golf Course overview

Today’s course opened in 2005 and has since proved to be a links of some repute, having played host to European Tour Qualifying School and both the men’s and ladies’ Scottish Opens. A par-72 and over 7100 yards off the championship tees, Dundonald is a very fair layout with everything in front of you, plenty of pot bunkers and a burn that intrudes on several holes. Be warned though, as this is not for the faint-hearted, especially the par-5s which can be brutal.

Signature Holes

The 11th is a 120-yar par-3 and the shortest hole on the course, however, good distance control is essential if you want to hit this well-guarded steeply sloping green. In contrast, the 18th is the longest hole on the course at 560 yards from the tips and a very testing way to finish your round.

Your drive needs to be left side of the fairway to avoid bunkers on the right, followed by an accurate second in order to avoid more bunkers, before then hitting your approach to a green guarded by a ditch in front and pot bunkers at the back. You will deserve a drink after this one!

Did You Know?

A golf course existed on this site in the 1900s, however, it was turned into a military station called Dundonald Camp and is where D-Day landings were rehearsed during the Second World War.
