Widely regarded as the more distinctive of the two layouts at Hawkstone Park, the Hawkstone Course offers a truly memorable round shaped by its unique natural landscape.

Originally designed by five-time Open Champion James Braid and later refined by Hawtree Ltd, the course is set among dramatic sandstone ridges, pine forests, and natural rock formations that give it a character unlike most inland courses in England.

At just over 6,500 yards, the par-72 layout places a premium on accuracy and shot-making rather than sheer distance. Narrow, tree-lined fairways wind through avenues of towering pines, while sudden elevation changes and blind shots add an adventurous edge.

The ever-present sandstone outcrops and heather-lined areas create a visual style reminiscent of heathland golf, while demanding careful navigation throughout the round. It’s a course that rewards creativity and local knowledge, offering a golfing experience that is as scenic as it is strategic.

Signature hole

The par-3 15th is widely considered the standout hole. Played from an elevated tee, the hole requires a precise shot over a dramatic sandstone quarry to a green set among towering rock formations. Both visually intimidating and spectacular, it perfectly captures the adventurous spirit of the Hawkstone Course.
