If you are a golfer who lives in the northern states in the US, chances are you HATE when winter rolls around because the local courses are closed and you have to pack the clubs away until spring. As the leaders in global golf travel, we are here to help you play golf all year round with our handy guide to the golf seasons. Let’s break it down for you:

Winter golf

For those who live in the snow-covered states during the winter months, a warm weather golf getaway is ideal to escape the cold. Most travelers flock to the warm areas of the country to find refuge while others will choose to head further south for a tropical all-inclusive getaway with sunny beaches and green fairways in the Caribbean.

While these destinations do stay warm during the winter months, this is considered “peak season” with high demand, so golf course and hotel rates will be at their highest point of the year.

If you want to get the best value for winter golf, head to the Carolinas or Alabama for “off-season” pricing so you can play some of the top courses in the country at the lowest rates of the year.

Spring trips

Spring is the ideal time for you to take a golf trip to almost any golf destination. Warmer temperatures make for ideal golfing weather and the courses are in prime shape. With the bonus of gaining an extra hour due to Daylight Savings, you can easily play more than one round in a day.

When it comes to golf and hotel rates, spring is considered a “shoulder season” where the prices aren’t too high or low and you can still find a great deal. Spring season is shorter in length than both summer and winter with only the months of April and May. You can find a great deal at the end of May when the venues are switching over to the low season summer pricing, so you get great weather and lower rates!

For the UK & Ireland trips, early spring is when you will find lower pricing, just be prepared for wind, rain, and cooler temperatures.

Summer vacations

As summer rolls around and it starts to heat up, rates tend to drop due to the high temperatures and golf courses become much quieter. You can play some of the top golf courses around the US at the lowest prices of the year when you travel between end of May and mid-August.

Similarly, the Caribbean and Mexico can get quite hot during the summer, so you can get great rates on a tropical summer trip. One thing to keep in mind when booking a summer golf trip is that many of the courses aerate the fairways and greens during this period, but not to worry, our Vacation Specialists will be able to steer you in the right direction to avoid these times.

On the other hand, summer is the peak season for many of the other destinations across the US. The southeastern states get an influx of travelers and families on their annual summer vacation, especially the coastal destinations.

Summer is also the peak travel season for the bucket list trips over to the UK & Ireland. The travel season for those trips is typically end of April to early October with the best weather (never guaranteed) happening in the months of June, July, and August.

Fall Golf

Golf in the fall is similar to spring when it comes to seasonality and pricing. As the heat and humidity of the summer fades away, it makes for perfect golfing weather in most of the golf destinations around the country.

Considered “shoulder season” or “mid-season”, a golf trip in fall won’t break the bank and great deals can be found if you know where to look. One thing to keep an eye out for when traveling in fall is overseeding maintenance, where courses seed the fairways, tees, and greens to keep them healthy and green when the cold weather arrives. Fall season in the US is typically from mid-September to the end of November but can vary depending on the location.

For the Caribbean and Mexico, you can find some good deals when you travel in the month of September before rates go up. For UK & Ireland trips, September and early October rates are lower, but be prepared for cooler weather.
