Witness Ryder Cup history being made

The Ryder Cup is now regarded as one of the greatest sporting events on the calendar. Samuel Ryder, from whom the cup gets its name, was inspired by the 1926 match at Wentworth when Abe Mitchell teamed up with George Duncan to defeat the great Open champions, James Barnes and Walter Hagen. In the bar after the game, Ryder declared ‘We must do this again’, and the rest is history...

When officially introduced in 1927, the two teams competing were originally Great Britain and the United States. The US got off to an impressive start, winning the first five Ryder Cup competitions. This dominance continued both before and after the Second World War, which led to the inclusion of European players in 1979, where the playing field became a lot more even.

In recent years, the Ryder Cup has brought to our screens some of the most memorable displays in the cup’s history. Many of you will have witnessed the ‘Miracle of Medinah’ in 2012, the United States' brilliant display at Hazeltine in 2016, and Europe’s demolition job at Le Golf National in 2018. Needless to say, the trend over the past decade has been a back-and-forth tussle with each team winning on their home soil for the most part.

Ryder Cup 2027 schedule

The Ryder Cup delivers three days of thrilling match-play formats, including foursomes, fourballs, and singles matches. The first two days feature exhilarating pairs matchplay with 16 points up for grabs, leading to the dramatic singles matches on the final day.

With 12 points available during the singles, the final day often becomes a nail-biting spectacle, where everything can change, and the roars of the crowd echo across the course. Below is a predicted schedule of the event.

Wednesday 13th-15th September Practice rounds From morning onwards

Thursday 16th September Practice round & opening ceremony From morning onwards

Friday 17th September Day 1: Fourball matches (AM) & Foursome matches (PM) From early morning onwards (approximately)

Saturday 18th September Day 2: Fourball matches (AM) & Foursome matches (PM) From early morning onwards (approximately)

Sunday 19th September Day 3: Singles matchplay & trophy ceremony From early morning onwards (approximately)

Each match is worth one point, with a half-point awarded to each team if a match ends in a tie. The first team to reach 14.5 points wins the Ryder Cup, while 14 points result in a tie, allowing the current holder to retain the cup.
