Situated on the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula in north-west Mexico, Cabo's spectacular location sets the scene for some of the most visually impressive golf in the world. During our August 2025 trip to Cabo, we saw first-hand how the desert meets the sea in dramatic fashion. From cliffs overlooking the Sea of Cortez to windswept dunes, designers including Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman and Robert Trent Jones Jr have created some memorable layouts across the region.

Par: 72 | Yardage: 7,342 | Designer: Tom Weiskopf | Good for: Stunning ocean backdrops | Top 100 Courses Mexico ranking: 16th

Why play here? The Cabo del Sol Desert Course, opened in 2001, is consistently ranked among the Top 100 Courses Outside the U.S. by Golf Digest and a Top 10 Course in Mexico & the Caribbean by Golf Magazine.

Carved through canyon-like arroyos, rugged rock formations, and desert flora, it blends championship challenge with resort playability. Wide fairways welcome golfers of all levels, while bold bunkering and tricky approaches demand precision. Stunning Sea of Cortez backdrops make it an absolute must-play.

Signature hole: The par-5 5th offers dramatic views and tests accuracy from tee to green, the longer hitters can reach it in two, but will likely bring danger into play by taking the aggressive approach.

Travel tip: Book early to secure tee times, as the Desert Course is one of the most sought-after in Cabo.

Why play here? Since opening in 2014, Quivira Golf Club has quickly earned widespread acclaim and was named among the world’s 100 greatest golf courses by Golf Digest. Designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, the course features dramatic clifftop holes and sweeping views across the Pacific Ocean.

Guests staying at Pueblo Bonito Resorts enjoy exclusive access, making this one of Cabo’s standout golf experiences. Expect 18 memorable holes, each with its own distinctive character.

Signature hole: The 13th is arguably the pick of the bunch from a visual perspective. This spectacular par 3 hugs the coastline, with trouble waiting to the right. Take a par here and you will be more than happy to move on to the next hole.

Travel tip: Arrive at least an hour before your tee time to enjoy the first comfort station before heading out. Sitting high above the Pacific Ocean, it offers impressive views along the coastline.

Mountain/Arroyo Course | Par: 72 | Yardage: 6,939 | Designer: Jack Nicklaus | Good for: 27 holes to enjoy | Top 100 Courses Mexico ranking: 18th

Why play here? Known as the ‘Grand Dame of Los Cabos Golf’, Palmilla was Nicklaus’ first design in Latin America. The club features three distinct nine-hole loops, Mountain, Arroyo and Ocean, which showcase desert canyons, mountain scenery and coastal fairways alongside the Sea of Cortez.

Regularly ranked among the top courses in Mexico, Palmilla offers plenty of challenge alongside its impressive setting. Facilities include a well-stocked clubhouse, practice areas and premium Callaway club hire.

Signature hole: The 13th on the Mountain Course is a standout. This 534-yard par 5 from the back tees has water running along the right-hand side of the fairway, placing a premium on accuracy throughout the hole. A par is a very good score here.

Travel tip: The Arroyo/Mountain combination is widely considered the strongest routing and is the one we recommend trying to play.

Par: 71 | Yardage: 6,848 | Designer: Robert Trent Jones Jr | Good for: A challenging test of golf | Top 100 Courses Mexico ranking: 21st

Why play here? Cabo Real has hosted two PGA Senior Grand Slam events and is known for its technical design and ocean views. The course has since swapped its nines, making the front nine more forgiving while the back provides a sterner test.

The routing has been designed so that uphill holes generally play downwind, while downhill holes play into the breeze. This creates an interesting balance and places an emphasis on good course management throughout the round.

Signature hole: The 18th is a memorable finishing hole, with views towards the Sea of Cortez and a strategically positioned lake to the left of the fairway. It is a hole where a good finish is far from guaranteed.

Travel tip: A morning round usually offers more favourable conditions and helps you avoid the stronger winds that can develop in the afternoon. Between December and April, you may also have the chance to spot whales offshore from several of the ocean-view holes.

Par: 72 | Yardage: 7,241 | Designer: Greg Norman | Good for: Links-style design

Why play here? Opened in 2020, Solmar Golf Links offers golfers a distinctive combination of oceanfront golf and links-inspired design. Designed by Greg Norman, its links influence can be seen in features such as the numerous greenside pot bunkers more commonly associated with courses in the UK and The Open Championship.

Signature hole: The par-3 17th measures 191 yards and features an island green surrounded by water, making it a demanding test even for accomplished golfers.

Travel tip: Solmar Golf Links is particularly convenient for golfers staying at nearby Solmar Resorts who want luxury accommodation alongside easy access to a high-quality golf course.

Par: 72 | Yardage: 6,996 | Designer: Jack Nicklaus | Good for: Elevated holes and panoramic ocean views

Why play here? Set against the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains, Club Campestre San José combines picturesque scenery with a varied test of golf. The front nine is relatively flat, while the back nine climbs into higher ground, where elevated holes provide panoramic views across the Sea of Cortez.

The changing terrain and strategic layout make Campestre an enjoyable option for both local golfers and visitors to Cabo.

Signature hole: The par-4 10th sits high above the surrounding landscape and offers far-reaching views across the Sea of Cortez.

Travel tip: Make sure your phone or camera is fully charged, as the elevated back nine provides some of the best panoramic views of the Sea of Cortez on the course, particularly around holes 10 to 12.

Par: 72 | Yardage: 6,852 | Designer: Roy Dye | Good for: Wide fairways and a forgiving design

Why play here? Just minutes from the centre of Cabo, Cabo San Lucas Country Club provides an enjoyable test for golfers of all abilities. The course features wide, forgiving fairways, native desert vegetation and memorable views towards Land’s End and the Arch of Cabo San Lucas.

While it does not offer the same clifftop drama as Quivira or Cabo del Sol, its convenient location and more forgiving layout make it a good choice for golfers looking for a relaxed but scenic round.

Signature hole: The par-5 7th doglegs towards Land’s End and offers both a risk-and-reward opportunity and one of the most memorable views on the course.

Travel tip: Afternoon rounds can be quieter, which may make it easier to secure a later tee time compared with some of Cabo’s other courses. It can be a useful option if you are hoping to fit an extra round into your golf holiday.

Los Cabos is a memorable golf destination where desert landscapes meet the Sea of Cortez. The Cabo del Sol Desert Course offers an appealing balance of playability and challenge, while Quivira delivers dramatic clifftop golf in a spectacular coastal setting.

Together, Cabo’s courses offer plenty of variety, from rugged desert layouts to oceanfront fairways shaped by some of golf’s best-known designers. Q: What’s the best time of year to play golf in Cabo? A: The peak golf season runs from November to May, when conditions are generally warm with lower humidity and less chance of rain. Summer, from June to September, is hotter and more humid, with a greater risk of tropical storms, although golfers can often find better value and quieter tee times.

Q: Can I bring my own golf clubs, or should I hire them in Cabo? A: Many golfers choose to bring their own clubs, although most leading courses and resorts in Cabo also offer high-quality club hire. Hiring clubs can be a convenient option if you would prefer to travel light.

Q: Are tee times in Cabo easy to book, or should I plan ahead? A: Tee times at Cabo’s most popular courses can sell out quickly, particularly during the peak season from November to April.
